Looking for old wank
Halp, I think I may be going crazy. I've spent the last hour and a half trying to locate an old wank. I'm sure that back in 2003 or 2004, there was a wank with a crazy lady who hated NaNoWriMo. On her website she spoke of how she suffered every day for her craft, waiting for the perfect novel to come to her (as I recall, she hadn't written a single novel draft yet, only short stories). I think she was unemployed, married and living with her husband's parents or something. I checked f_w, fandom_lounge and oft_wank around October-November but I couldn't find it. Was it actually here that I saw that? Anyone remember such a wank? I may not even be looking at the right place.

I just have the urge to find out whether she's still out there, crazy and unpublished.

I remember that. I think it was 2005, the year I did Nanowrimo, but I couldn't find anything here on F_W or in my LiveJournal archives. I'm almost positive I read about it on LJ but I'm not sure if it made it to F_W.

Maybe it was on the NaNoWriMo lj com? Were you part of it at the time? But if it was there, I may never find it. They post like crazy. Woe.

Based on what [Bad username: smashingstars"] said, I tried otf_wank for 2005:

NaNo wank that sounds kind of similar:

Other 2005 NaNo wanks:

The Anti-NaNo people amuse me so.

Yeah. I mean, I have a friend who did NaNo this year and discovered that it didn't work for her -- she didn't like trying to get a rough draft done in a month, and wanted to do a more leisurely pace so she could plan more.

But, she doesn't kick down the people who enjoy doing it, or the people it does help. (She does snipe at people like her co-workers who seem to think that NaNo is easy and anyone can write a novel in 30 days.)

That's a way cooler reaction than some people that it didn't work for. I got a stern reprimand from a mod over gleefully bouncing about in off topic threads in the comm when NaNo viable plot ideas came up. o.O There's a fuckload of comments in that comm so I don't know how she could cut through all of them to say "Is that all you came here to say lately? Chill out." to me.

Ooh, that's the one I remember. I recall laughing until my spleen popped at dasein_fiasco thinking there were 31 days in November. No idea if this is what the OP is looking for, though. Hope so, because it's a laff riot.

Ah, NaNo haters. They give me something to burn in effigy at Pennsic.

Was it Alma A. Hromic by any chance?

This is the only link to that I have. The wank was posted elsewere, but I'm not finding it either. o_O (I also poked around fandom_rant and fw_offline - no dice.)

...

I tried using Google to see if I could find it that way. I couldn't. But what I did get was a google ad for a company called "Seriesse Business". *bites lip*

I looked up this woman's website but that's not it. This Alma's actually been writing books. My crazy hadn't written a book because she had to *wait* for genius to come to her. This kept her from having a job. Jobs keep the genius away, you know.

Thanks for trying though.

Jobs keep the genius away, you know.

I read a short story like that. Where the woman had to learn to quit her job at the department store because otherwise her muse would Never Visit Her Again. I hope her muse brought food.

Was this a professionally published story? And do you have links?

It was professionally published and I don't have links. I'm being a little unfair to the story, too, because it was mainly a humorous fantasy story and a decent one, but the part about the writing was truly annoying and I don't think it was meant be a parody or "how not to actually be a writer."

I think I know who you're talking about! She had a anime-ish LJ name, yukionna or something.
