Seriously, wtf is with this?! Do I have to click on a cut link for every [info]metaquotes entry?
Does anyone else think that's fucking stupid?

Somebody might have changed the journal's settings as "for adults". Log in or give LJ some date of birth, and you don't have to click on the cuts ;-)

Oh, thanks. Apparently, I wasn't logged in. I don't know what the matter is with my browser, since it keeps logging me out of LJ and JF.

Are you on Firefox? I've had that same problem with the last couple of updates, but haven't figured out how to stop it. And when I ask around, the only responses I get are "have you updated to the latest version?" and "have you tried clearing your cache or double-checking your privacy settings?" Which I have. Multiple times. So I have to keep myself from going ballistic on the next "helpful" person who asks that.

Yes, actually. I'm also using the LJLogin extension. I figure it's just a cookie bug.

Are you on a Mac or a PC? I'm on a Mac and I found that LJLogin extension to be more trouble than it was worth after a couple of weeks, and ended up getting rid of it.

Nah, I'm on a PC. It's not really any trouble, but, well, it doesn't really help with the login problem. It's more useful to people who have multiple LJ IDs. I only have the one.

The current ljlogin has a cookie for site scheme that you can set. I've learned to love it for that. No more "lj put me back to the site scheme I don't want!".

Crazy annoying, isn't it? I've never spent this much time logged into LJ. So much for checking up quickly without logging in...

I have a friend who set her personal journal to "adult" (which, really, the vast majority isn't). So if I'm not logged in, I get to click on "You are about to view content that may not be appropriate for minors." and then see stuff like "Artichokes on sale at the farmers market! Yay, dinner for me!" There's a sort of cognitive dissonance there.

hey, you don't know what your friend's planning to do with those artishokes. DUN JUDGE OMG!

For a moment, I was all ready to google "artishoke fetish" to make my point. Then I realised exactly how bad an idea that would be, especially at work.

Ouch ouch ouch, artichokes have little thorn things on their leaves! Unless those were Jerusalem artichokes on sale, no thorns there.

I know I spent about three minutes trying to figure out why Bush-bashing was inappropriate content for minors.

*is reminded of that Roz Chast cartoon about an adult bookstore, with titles involving taxes and vector calculus on display in the window*

I did the same thing as she did, and then got a steady stream of confused comments about it. Annoyed me so much that I undid the setting.

For the longest time, I was getting that on [info]metaquotes even when I was logged in. I finally figured out that in my own profile, I hadn't provided them with my birth date; only the day and the month.

I added the full date in to the account info, but set my profile just to show the year and day, and haven't ever had that problem since.

You don't need to show the year, AFAIK - the LJ system knows it's there, even if you don't see it.

Right, but that's if you put it in. I hadn't in the first place.

Everyone thinks it's stupid, I think. If you have your birth date set in your profile, though, it shouldn't give you trouble -- at least, it didn't for me after I set mine.

more LJ lunacy.

Like I want to give them my birthdate so it can be googled and used for fraud. Great.

You can set your profile to only display the day and month, or to not display the date at all.

yes I know, but you are still sending it to their none too secure servers.
I've also had mine "turned on" at various times without my knowledge. (other things as well get changed.)

So, I just stopped bitching and put in 1/1/1900. That should make m old enough.

Just give a different date then. It's not like LJ can check.

Yeah, I kind of don't understand why it's not just ONE link and then you can view it all on that journal, at least until you leave it. :/
