Spy Fox
I guess it may be stretching a point to call this a "fandom" but did anyone else ever play a kids' PC game called Spy Fox? I played it with my kid when she was young (only the first game -- "Dry Cereal") and I'm suddenly having serious nostalgia for the silly cheesiness it. Especially the "happy fun sub" mini-game with that music! But of course also the suave title character. The second game apparently included parodies of James Bond theme songs and I'm so tempted to play it someday.

I didn't necessarily play it, but I remember hearing about it.

It came out about the same time as Freddi Fish, which I also played with my daughter but it wasn't as fun and tongue-in-cheek as Spy Fox. (In one ending of Spy Fox the President gives you a medal and he was obviously Bill Clinton as a bull.)

I remember the existence of this game, but I don't remember anything about it.

I "knew" a lady ("knew" as in "posted to the same Usenet group she did") who worked at Humongous and on Spy Fox, and she sang the "Goldfinger" parody on one of the games. I never got a chance to play the games, though I know several people who did and they all loved it.

Spy Fox was even advertised on the milk served to kids at Head Start when I worked there back in '99.

That's actually very cool.

I wonder if I could still get the second game. We had it at one point but never played it and now it's been lost.

Well, since the theme of the first was about milk, that makes sense. (Of course part of the message was "goats' milk sucks" so I imagine the goat milk people weren't happy.)

The milk connection: explained! Thanks, I always wondered about that.

Spy Fox was SO MUCH FUN. OMG. I was a tad old for it, but I never minded playing my brother's kids' games if they were good, and Spy Fox was.

Well, I was in my 30s! I guess I could excuse myself that I played it with my kid, but actually I was addicted to the Happy Fun Sub even when she wasn't around. The voice acting was so much fun in that game.

The screenshots I thought look pretty doggone familiar, I wonder if one of my younger relatives had that on their comp. And I'm so lame -- I'm looking for ports of Spy Fox and Roger Wilco. Man, I miss Roger Wilco.

*googles Roger Wilco* I don't think I'd ever heard of that before. Or maybe I had, because the janitor part rings a bell. It sounds extremely cool.

DOSBox, ScummVM and abandonware sites are your friends. *still plays Space Quest, Quest For Glory, King's Quest, and, er, yes, occasionally Putt-Putt*

Oooh, thank you!

(And much love for Putt-Putt. "Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo" was my favorite I think. With the singing topiary creatures.)

:-D I'm all about sharing the old-PC-game love.

"We are the topiary creatures, we're very pleased to meetcher, señors and señoritas too..." My sister can sing the whole damn' thing still. Personally, I thought gameplay-wise "Putt-Putt Enters The Race" was the best, but the fact that they replaced Putt-Putt's voice with a woman's sucked. (I'm the oldest of four with the youngest being eight. Took us a while to age through all that stuff, so we got some of the more recent ones.)
