Sometimes Chuck Norris lets his lawyers do the ass-kicking
So everyone knows the facts about Chuck Norris (e.g. Chuck Norris' tears can cure cancer. Too bad he's never cried). Well someone got it into their head to compile it into book form and publish it.

Chuck Norris is less-than-impressed. Apparently. According to Ninemsn.com.au at least.

Seriously, is this for real?

I just saw that book in Borders yesterday. Should I buy it before it gets pulled or something?

I totally blogged about this in today's LJ post

If I were him, I'd sue too, because it's not just compiling silly lists on the internet, now it's making money just gathering the silly list and not really adding to them and profiting from his fame. I've read his reaction to the 'mythical facts' list, which was basically 'well, they're amusing, but there's no such thing as evolution'.

Yeah, that's what's skeevier to me, too. I'm not liking much the idea of putting together a lot of stuff you've just found on the internet and publishing it.

We all know the truth about Chuck Norris anyway. After all, he did marry a cat. Or, sorry — a cat-like creature.

Chuck and JKR were having tea one day. She said, "Chucky, you were totally right telling me to ditch H/Hr," and he said, "I'm glad you agree — I just didn't care about it. But Joanne, I have a problem. They want to take things on the internet about me that used to be free, and make a book and make money money off of them." And a tall man walked in, shrouded in a dark hooded robe with what looked like old bloodstains splattered upon it. And JKR said, "Chucky, this is my lawyer; he smites my enemies. You can totally borrow him." "I'm much obliged, Jo," Chuck said, sipping delicately on his Jasmine tea. "After we crush them under our boots, won't you all come over for bridge?"

Well, it's been ages now since he explained that it's not he who is all that, it's Jesus. Why didn't they listen and make it a Facts about Jesus book?

'Scuse me, 'scuse me, I'd just like to ask a question. Do people actually care about Chuck Norris at all? I kind of figured the jokes were more about being a meme than about him at this point. And since I still don't really have any idea who he is, well, if I'm supposed to care I'd like to know.

(I don't think a book of a meme works. It's a meme. It lives through internet tradition and being passed around and changed, like a folktale or something -- trapping it in something as concrete as a book seems like it would kill the point of the thing.)

"Some of the 'facts' in the book are racist, lewd or portray Mr Norris as engaged in illegal activities," the lawsuit alleges.

If that's true, wow, what a stupid thing to do.

Semi-OT, but...

My grandma is the biggest Chuck Norris fan ever. She's watched Walker: Texas Ranger every single day for like an eternity, and she keeps his autobiography on her bedside table like a bible. She even named her cat, Norris, after him. Being in love with Chuck Norris is practically her trademark.

I keep wondering if she's figured out that he's a meme yet. I mean, grandmas don't really learn about memes very often, but maybe it's different now that this one's so mainstream.
