Snarry v. Snupin? What?
What's all this about, does anyone know? Haven't actually seen any mention except this one, but it sounds like the sort of thing that'd blow up the second people actually heard about it (or else it already has and I just don't know where to look, which is equally likely). Um?

ETA: Nevermind, found something. Is this real? It looks a bit hodgepodge, but I can't tell.

Seems real. It's styled after other team-challenge writing fests in hp fandom, like snarry_games.

In a fandom that wasn't known for its huge shipping wanks, I'd say it could be a way to have some fun together if no one took it seriously, but with Harry Potter that's questionable.

Exactly. My first thought, too, honestly, and I was trying to figure out a way to infiltrate the contest with a whole squadron of OT3ers...then I realized how much work that would involve.

I don't see this as being a big wank magnet.

Oh, sure, I can think of some individuals who will piss and moan about it because their ship is Serious Business and, well--taking offense is just what they do.

But there's a lot of crossover between Snupin and Snarry shippers; many Snupin shippers also read Snarry, and vice-versa. The two groups have so far shown a total lack of animosity towards each other--after all, neither was ever gong to be canon so there was never any of the OMG UR RONG bullshit that plagues canon- and possibly-canon ships. So for the folks who like both, this could be fun.

FYI, the person who started the community and who, apparently, will mod is the same person in the HP_Art_Exchange community who was rather wanky last October. She was paired with Sweet Lemon, who apparently requested H/Hr, and Countess posted a pic (scribbles over a photograph, mind you) where Harry was mourning over the grave of Hermione.

That might have been all right if she hadn't included in her notes the fact that she can't imagine the pairing any other way and that she ships Harry/Ginny. Sweet Lemon, meanwhile, posted in exchange a more reasonable pic of Snape and Lupin kissing, as that is Countess' OTP. After some comments from people who thought Countess' "gift" was rude, she took it down and posted a less incendiary gift later.

In addition, Countess has already said she hopes Snupin will win in replies to her opening post - I hope that means she's not going to put herself in any position to judge. She also admitted lifting the idea from Snarry_Games, and I was pretty sure Djinn (sp) explicitly forbade people from taking the format without talking to her first.

Issues like the above are why I posted so quickly in a discouraging manner. I don't trust that particular user to run a good contest, yet I didn't want to go into detail on the LS community with my private reservations when I can no longer point to proof of the girl's past behaviour. Here, well...I assume this is the wank feeder pool, I might as well be open.

While I still think a multi-ship "war" could cause some over-zealous types hard feelings, I'd certainly be more open to the idea of some sort of contest between the ships if it were run by people who hadn't displayed bad form in the past. And you're right, a lot of people ship both, and I'm sure they could have some fun with the idea. If only someone else would run with it....

Hm. Looking at the community info, it reminds me of the Triatha-Ron that took place last summer, which AFAIK was a big success, without any wanks erupting (although in that case teams were divided into Gen, Het, and Slash, rather than specific ships).
