help finding fic for deadish fandom?
I recently became a fan of Babylon 5, and as it's lacked new canon for some time I'm finding it difficult to be fannish about. I've found a bunch of links to now-vanished Angelfire and Geocities sites, fanfic WIPs I suspect have been abandoned for years, and other indications that at one point there was fannish activity, but not a lot of active fandom. However, I also know that newcomers have trouble finding things even in active fandoms sometimes, so I thought it'd be worth asking, and as I don't have an LJ any more this seemed like my best resource.

Anyone have any idea where I can find good Babylon 5 fic/art, preferably of the finished variety? Of particular interest would be gen dealing with telepathy, Ivanova/Winters, Zack/Lyta, or any unusual ships, but I'm really interested in anything worth reading unless it's about Garibaldi. Maybe even if it is. Also interested in fannish analysis of the canon -- essays and theories and whatnot -- though I very much doubt there's any online.

As someone who has about 90% of B5 fandom on LJ on my f-list, I can assure you the B5 fandom is far from dead ;)

There's fair amount of fic posted on LJ, so here's a list of all the fic communities to start point. Check out also the tags for [info]universe_today newsletter (on LJ) for fanart, fic, vids meta etc.

As for specific recs, for Ivanova/Talia, try [info]leyenn(on LJ) - she's the queen of that pairing - and for unusual pairings the rare pairings ficathon I ran a while ago.

If you want a good non-LJ place to discuss the show, the JumpNow forums are still the place to be.

Need anything else, just ask and I'll probably be able to help you ;)

<3 Thank you so much! (Someone(s) even wrote Ivanova/Delenn, my God, this is fantastic!)

As an aside, your icon has been cracking me up ever since I saw that episode. Centauri genitalia, always good for a laugh, eh?

Well, damn. I want to recommend this very AU story that asks "What would have happened if the Minbari hadn't surrendered at the Battle of the Line?", but I can't remember the title or the author.

Do you mean "A Dark, Distorted Mirror" by Gareth Williams?

(the site seems to be down atm)

There's some stuff archived here that I don't think is anywhere else. Leyenn's fic is, definitely, elsewhere, but the rest of it, I'm not so sure about.

Also, Penemuel's Nest has a lot.

I've got a heap of links if you want more. :)

I'm terrified to find that Garibaldi/Bester fic exists, even if I saw the potential all over myself....

Those links are excellent. Thank you! (And, yeah, I hate to be greedy, but I would love more!)

Okay, you asked for it! Moar!

JennyAnn's B5 Fic (Contains 'Balance of Power' co-written with A. Manley Huff and Sue Phillips which was the first slash I read!)
Sheshat's Library. Mainly Ivanova/Marcus.
Writer's Haven B5 Fanfic. Various pairings, writers.
Blueshades: Centauri and Narn Fiction. As it says on the tin.
Musings and Sketches. John/Delenn.
Allaire Mikhail's Fiction. Sinclair/Garibaldi.
A. Manley Huff's Fic. Various pairings, adult fic. Slash and Het.
Delusions: Marcus/Neroon Slash. Like it says on the tin.
Em Land: Yahoo group for Emily Brunson. 'The House of Flesh' and 'The Wishing Tree' are fabulous, worth joining the list just to grab these two fics to read.
Aunt Beast's Susa/Talia fic. Like it says on the tin.
Sensitive Bunch: B5 fic comm on LJ.
The Ivanova Fiction Archive. Mainly Susan/Talia, Susan/Marcus or all three!
Rough Stones. Various pairings by Lapis Lazuli.
Diamond's Fanfic Mainly Susan/Marcus.
B5 at WWOMB. Slash, het, gen.
Elfin's Fic. Mainly Sheridan/Garibaldi. (My personal favourite 'ship!)

A lot of the best fic is no longer online, sadly. I've got a whole heap saved to disc for my own rereading enjoyment, but I don't know what the B5 fic fandom ettiquette is for emailing it out...I know one of the lists I'm on allows emailing fic to other people, so if you want a zip file or similar of that fic, let me know. :)

You are a most generous and wonderful person and I thank you incredibly much. :-D

What manner of fic is it? I wouldn't want to ask you to go to the effort for something that I wouldn't find really interesting, see.

Weeeell, ir's probably easier for you to tell me what you're looking for - you name it, I've probably got it. Rule 34 and all. :) So, if you give me a list of pairings, etc, I can tell you how many (if any) I have of them.

You realize, of course, the list'll be long? I'm still turning over a bunch of things about the show and there's a lot I'm curious about. Things I am particularly interested in reading about include:

-Ivanova, in any context -- special interest in "Ivanova is a super-telepath" scenarios
-Franklin
-Tech #1 Corwin
-Telepaths, with regards to wrapping up any of the sub-plots about them (wouldn't they, like, try to breed telekinetics from Talia instead of dissecting her? What happened to the frozen ones? Why are there more unresolved things about telepaths than any other subset of characters? Why are all the female telepaths apparently bi?) Also shipperfic -- I mentioned S/T and Z/L above but telepath shipperfic is generally cool
-Lennier/Marcus
-Lochley/any female (has anyone written Lochley/Ivanova? Or who-was-Zoe stuff?)
-Actually, any f/f, because the female characters are all pretty fantastic and thus shippable.

Things that don't interest me:

-Garibaldi -- I think it's his hair, but I have no interest in him
-Sheridan/Delenn -- the show provided enough of that
-In shipperfic, a lack of explanation. It always bugs me seeing two characters suddenly in happy-couple mode when I don't know where it came from. That's pretty sweeping, I know, but I thought if I was being so general about things I like I might as well go both ways.

Yep, I can think of at least one fic in each of those in your want list. What's your email and over the weekend I'll zip up what I have and send it to you. :)

Oh, I miss B5. My first big internet fandom, fun times. Sorry I'm no help with fic and I lost most of my B5 links a while back, but I still love wandering around these sites occasionally:

The Lurker's Guide to B5
Babylon 5 Time Line and History Page
Voltayre's Encyclopedia Xenobiologica
Babylon 5 Quotes

The Lurker's Guide Resources section seems to have a fair number of working links among the broken ones, if you haven't already been through them. Hope that helps.

There was quite a lot of fan activity on rec.arts.sf.tv.babylon5

JMS had a big online presence, and was very clear about wanting to avoid fan speculation and fanfiction that would put him in a sticky legal position. In general, he's exerted quite a bit of control over time in what's remained online. (See, for example, the removal of the Bab 5 shooting scripts from twiz.)

You can always try the geocities/angelfire links in wayback.

*makes note* I suspected there was Usenet stuff, so I'll have to check that -- I didn't know what it'd be called.

Yeah, I'd heard something about that. Unfortunate, really, considering that canon left some significant things unresolved.

I tried some of them with archives -- Google and such -- but that's a good suggestion. Thank you.

There's only eleven fics listed for Bab5, but I've found that the Crack Van recommendations community (link goes to Memories by fandom) often leads me to personal and group archives when exploring a new fandom.

(more to come, maybe, but I'm snakebit about losing comments today)

Bab 5 tag dump from Ship Manifesto. There is no Bab 5 article at [info]newbieguide, which is almost as sad as the dearth of [Unknown LJ tag].

There used to be an extensive fic recs thread at the old Dominion BB on Scifi.com, but that whole system has been churned and dumped so many times I'm sure they're all gone.

I don't have Ivanova here, so I answer with Aeryn Sun and once again contend that there needs to be more AS/SI fic. Lots more.

I was going to look at my long list of links at the Soulful Spike Society Reading recommendations board and see if any of the archives there have B5, but the damned Proboards server has been down all day, so I'm having a panic attack instead since most of those archive links are from my dead iMac.

True -- I didn't think of that because a) I haven't seen 'em yet and b) I haven't seen any fannishness inspired by them -- again noting that I totally don't know the fandom. (And, c) I tend to overlook stuff with no Ivanova in.) But that's an excellent point and I'm glad you mentioned it, because now I may actually remember to watch that.
