Oh GameFAQs...
I know the place is a wank pit, but I never expected this type of thing to stem from the GameFAQs board: Church Arson Suspect Brags Online

This is how it's believed to have all started--on a website, gamefaqs.com.

A site where video gamers go to get clues, and to chat with other gamers about a variety of topics--and they do that on the site's "Current Events" message board.

On Wednesday night, a poster using the name "Jediknight12345" asked other posters on the Current Events page if he should burn down a church and school.

The question was treated as a joke, and was erased by the website's administrators.

Thursday morning on the website: posters asked what had happened at the church. Jediknight said he had gone through with it.

Some praised him, others didn't believe him, and when they asked for proof, Jediknight posted camera phone pictures and writes:

"Oh...and the best part...the whole school caught up on fire from 3 simple little fires. One was a bunch of computers, another a bunch of bibles, and the last was towels in an oven."

One picture referenced "FOR CE", believed to be the Current Events message board on the Gamefaqs website.

Jediknight also directed posters to wgem.com to show them what he had done--even making light of the tragedy at Mission Hill Baptist Church.

Posters from Florida and Wisconsin who had seen the comments and pictures on the Current Events page contacted WGEM News, and forwarded the information to us.

It seems like it less started on GameFAQs as the asshole who did it (because seriously; burning down churches is asshole behavior) posts on GameFAQs. It just restores my faith in humanity a little bit to hear that some of the posters there did have the decency to give the info to the authorities.

As an alternative to the wanktasm that GameFAQs is (however much I use it for finding Harvest Moon recipies), I just found Strategy Wiki, and they had awesome maps of Seafoam Island in Pokemon Red that GameFAQs didn't. Woot!

Same here. It's nice to know that some members of the community recognized this batshittery for what it is.

And StrategyWiki is awesome. I also like Universal Hint System. Haven't really used it much, but for me, hints are better than full-blown walkthroughs that tell you exactly how to do everything in a game, which is pretty much GameFAQs' bread and butter.

Oh, that's awesome! I'm often looking for a hint rather than finding out exactly what's going to happen.

*checks link*

Needs moar fake hint categories. They're the best part of the InvisiClues format.

I read walkthroughs not for the how to do things, but for the where to go. I shoot fine, but I get lost constantly. My notion of a game on "easy" would be mobs that respond as "difficult", but maps and waypoints everywhere. I'm eternally grateful for one of the KOTOR walkthroughs with a ton of labeled maps. I've beaten that game about 15 times and I still have to pull up the map to remember where shit is on Manaan.

I can't say I'm great at shooting, but it's the geography (or even spatial stuff within building) that really does me in. Even in games that do have maps I get disoriented. It especially kills me in Silent Hill because I end up dark places going down long hallways that look exactly alike. (It doesn't really matter because none of the doors open anyway, but still.)

See, now I'm jealous. I can find my way easily enough on maps. However, I have the coordination of a one eye'd snail on crack, so you can imagine me trying to fight and such....

I thought my friends were going to pop something at my horribly, horribly hilarious attempt at playing Guitar Hero. Last time I saw them laugh that hard was after, hey, another attempt of mine. Halo 3 is evil. I get stuck in a corner cause I'm not coordinated enough to run.

I don't know if I could ever do a first person shooter, either. I've never tried for longer than a few minutes because all I do is die. I just do survival horror on easy level or RPGs. But it's still finding my way around that truly does me in in the end. (For example, it took me about seven tries to finish one of the boss battles in one game... but it took my about an hour to find the boss battle.)

Wow, I'm really making myself sound competent here.

*offers you cookies* We can hang out and be competent at mocking other peoples video game skills. I pride myself on my "You're being targeted" helpfullness. Not that I say which of the three people is being targeted, or by who. *coughs*

But, yeah, I run away from boss battles. They deaded me fast. But I'm good at directions in RL as well, so that helps.

A few things confuse me. *mutters about the water tunnels in the Cave of Wonders in Kingdom Hearts* Oh, KH, how I hate your camera system.

Oh, cool, ty for the Wiki link! Maybe I can find a Halo 2 walkthrough that doesn't suck. I'm lame for using walkthroughs at all, but I'm massively geographically challenged.

Using walkthroughs isn't lame! As long as you're having fun, who cares?

/my two cents. And a chocobo.

I remember something similar happening with a bombing threat on 4chan last year. They also forwarded the warning to the authorities.

Yeah, I seem to remember something about a shooting or something? It was a while ago, so I'm kind of fuzzy on details.

That was actually a fake threat, if I recall. It was the one for October 22, right?

The guy just did it on a dare, and - while I do think it's kind of assholish to even propagate that - I don't think it's anywhere near the magnitude of actually burning down a house.

It's better to look at it this way: even in the pit of Gamefaqs message boards there are people decent enough to turn him in, which the idiot presumably thought he was safe from there.

A couple of weeks ago, my personal business site was DDOSed, costing me hundreds of dollars in bandwidth fees. I have also received numerous emails from members of your forum; threats of raping my family, exposing my bank account pin and social security number, and "goatseing" me. I traced the emails back to your members, and will take action immediately. Your IP addresses have been traced, and you will be reported to the authorities. If you think it's funny to ruin people's lives, just wait and see what will happen to yours. Do yourselves a favor and leave this site now, or you will pay the consequences.
