I ... have a shameful admission to make. No, it is not that I tried to download a copy of the first book.

It's that I couldn't find it online and considered borrowing it from the library.

I read a good bulk of it (shocking, I know). Because I have a masochistic side and enjoy to torture myself with bad fanfiction.

Oh, don't feel too bad. I actually read it. The whole thing. God help me. And I read it from the library because I wasn't about to line her pockets.

DON'T DO IT. I have friends who work in the uni library and they check people's borrowing history and then make fun of them.

Even if I knew absolutely nothing about CC and her copycatting ways, I still would not be thrilled by that book-description. If it has such a need to tell me a book will be breathtaking and gripping, odds are good it's dull as molasses.

I was in line at the bookstore last month and saw something about it up on the wall behind the desk. I busted out laughing and when my boyfriend asked why, I really had no way to fully explain myself. :|

Personally, I like this bit from the Kirkus review of the book:

"The prose is exceedingly purple: Eyes are always paint chips, black pits or jewels in a spider's web; ichor-leaking demons have voices like shattering glass; fairies have hair like autumn leaves or poison green skin."

Purple prose from CassieClare? Tell me it isn't so!

I'm not surprised the first one sold well; apparently urban fantasy with a teenage heroine is the thing right now, and after all, CC has a lot of Internet fans.

I'd be interested to know if someone picking the book up sight-blind to the internet controversy, just because it was an urban fantasy book, would think it was good writing, though. The excerpts I've read just weren't very interesting.

I borrowed a friend's free copy of the first book and read it, which didn't take long, and it was derivative and mediocre as I expected. That said, they do have lovely covers.

I can't decide if things like this should make me feel elated (if this is possible, maybe I actually have a chance of being published!) or depressed (GODDAMMIT CASSIE CLAIRE).

I was just at a bookstore yesterday with my sister and she picked up the first book and started looking at it. When I saw what book it was I told her "You don't want it, trust me. It's disguised bad fanfic and she's kind of a plagiarist." And then I told her the whole epic tale of Cassie Claire and laptops and Ipods and damn Harry Potter plagiarists and now I think she thinks I spend too much time on the Internet.

I felt really conflicted when one of my favorite bloggers on LJ, who is smart and snarky and overall awesometastic, read the first book and totally fell in love with it and said it was amazing.

I read the first chapter off CC's site and was not impressed, but I want to see if I can get through the first book just so I can say that I did. And maybe the second book if I'm feeling masochistic.

You know, I was in a book store a few weeks ago and saw CC's first book. It was sharing shelf space with several Anne Rice novels.

I laughed so hard.

The first time I saw a copy of the book in a local book store, it was weird because it was 'the internet' appearing in real life. That being said I have borrowed it from my local library, hell if I can read LKH, Ann Rice, and Mary Janice Davidson. I must be able to read the first book. Mustn't I?
