A pipe? No! ([info]also_not_a_pipe) wrote in [info]fandom_lounge,

There's a band, I forget the name of it. It came up when I was talking to some Canadian friends of friends. I said that I'd liked what I heard of Captain Tractor, and someone else said, "Oh, you should look into X then, they're like Captain Tractor but from the western part of Canada." I don't think that it's the Arrogant Worms, but I could be wrong.

For reference, Captain Tractor is sort of folk/Celtic rock, but more toward the rock end of the scale. I'd class them as like Great Big Sea, but harder.

Any ideas what I'm thinking of?

Spirit of the West? Wait, no, they're maritimes. But listen to them! They have good stuff

Could be Arrogant Worms. They cover Last Pirate on the Saskatchewan, and are much less Celtic and more uh-- appealing to the college crowd.

It's certainly possible, but they're mostly a comedy band. I'd probably compare them to Weird Al before I'd think to compare them to Great Big Sea.

Yes, that was what I was trying to hint delicately at with 'college crowd'. They're really nothing like GBS.

That's what I thought. I love the Worms. I'm going to go listen to 'Mounted Animal Nature Trail' now.

And they have a Symphonic Album out. This is very important.

The only suggestions I've got are Nickelback and Hootie and the Blowfish. Both I believe are from out west, but I can't judge their music styles properly.

Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie

This is the most beautiful band name I think I've ever seen.

They do some great songs. They were originally a Theatre Sports Troop, and if you've seen or listened to the "How To Do Tech Support" that involves asking for someone's 12 year old daughter, that's them too.

There's also The Town Pants, I know they're from Vancouver and are in the same sort of genre. They're more on the folk than rock side of things, however, but worth checking out anyway.

I think that's it! If it isn't, I sure do like them. Thanks!

sorry to come to the party so late, but maybe you're thinking of something like Moxy Früvous?
