I ship Internet/Scientology.
Crossposted to [info]random_lounge  anyway just in case this isn't fly here. =(

It's 5 days to March 15th and the 4chan/SA/ebaums/ED/Xenu/OCA/Internet coalition partyvan is pulling in, ladies and gents.

For those of you who haven't heard about the epic war of words and lulz raging on between the Church of Scientology and the shadowy "terrorist" denizens of the Interbutts--and now, even non-Net addicts-- under the name of Anonymous, here's an excerpt from the Project Chanology wiki:

"After a video interview with Tom Cruise got leaked onto YouTube, the Church of Scientology got butthurt and had the video removed. This prompted the internet at large to man the harpoons and begin an epic battle against the CoS to rid the planet of said scourge. In addition, some media attention was returning to the issue because of the release of Tom Cruise: The Unofficial Biography which has chapters of Scientology bashing. Anonymous looked at the past of Scientology with the censoring of free speech, a direct clash with our Anonymous principles of absolute free speech, and the lulz gathered from them even being talked to casually, and finally the insane murders and such that they executed, a sign of them taking the world as too much serious fucking business. Shame, looks like they just have to go.

But actually the battle between Anonymous and CoS is at least 100 years old. Back in the days when pr0n was posted to Usenet via the anon.penet.fi remailer, the Xenu story appeared, CoS became angry and butthurt at anon.penet.fi and a couple of Usenet operators. Much drama ensued. This battle is epic. Anonymous does not forget."

Wikinews article of the Feb 10 protest can be found here. Surprisingly enough, things have not imploded into a series of arrests and public fist-shaking and head-nodding about those wacky internet geeks (except from the Scientologists themselves), the usual gnat-like attention span of Anonymii holds fast, and the movement continues to snowball, picking up hordes from beyond the series of tubes.

You might want to post this to [info]operation_mock as well :)

I'd protest, but I'm picking up my new kitten that morning. I'm afraid OMGKITTY!!1! trumps everything... except voting in the local election. Blargh :P

I thought about it, but figured everyone who was on there would know most of this already. :(

Head over in the afternoon! Or whenever. If March 15 turns out to be anything like Feb 10, they'll be going on long into the evening.

I am sadly not going to be able to attend, as I will be at a NASCAR race that day... I am however going to help in my own way, fliers and stickynotes on cars in the parking lots and in the souvenier areas.

Well in Brisbane it's probably a really good date for a protest to happen seeing as the local elections are happening. Depending on where they set up, they should be able to hand out get the message out to more people than they might otherwise. Ah... compulsory elections. Sometimes they come in handy for reasons other than picking people to run the show :)

Crap, I think I have to ride past the Richmond Scientology HQ to get to my LARP. I think I'm getting snockered that night out of self-defense. That way, I can earn the headache rather than have it foisted upon me by traffic clusterfucks.

Who's bright idea was it to stick the CoS Richmond on the busiest one-way street in town anyway?

Anonymous co-ordinated it for maximum inconvenience to common folk, I'm sure.
