random bit of fan history
Alright, this was going to be a request post, but since I found what I was looking for I'll just share:

Back in the 80's Marie Osmond was made co-host of Ripley's Believe It Or Not. In their episode on sound poetry, she was expected to simply introduce the topic and read a few lines of Hugo Ball's "Karawane" from a cue card. Instead she looked away from the card, straight into the camera, and kicked ass.

From a website hosting a sound clip:
"It blew everybody away, and I think they only needed that one take. A year or so after it was broadcast, Greil Marcus approached me, wanting to use Marie Osmond's rendition of Hugo Ball for a cd produced in England as sonic companion to his book Lipstick Traces; so I was delighted to be able to arrange that."

And a sound clip (number 8): http://www.ubu.com/sound/ball.html

Great performance. Watching her was great, but when I listen to the sound clip, all I can think of are the Sims.

No prob! My dad brought it up (for some reason or another) and had me Google around for it - at first he thought it was from The Gong Show, which explains why this post was almost a request.

And now I feel really, really young.

Thanks for posting that! The art club at my college is having a Dada week, and I just sent the email account that video.

Wow.

Not only did she recite it from memory, the inflection and pacing she gave it was incredible!

Oh Marie. I think I will always love her no matter what people might say. She's the epitome of what an actress should be.

Wow... I don't remember her co-hosting Ripley's. I remember Jack Palance and his daughter hosting. I didn't know she was ever on that show.

But my God, she seriously kicked ass!
