See, I'm just baffled because it'd be so easy to cut DH down to movie length. Reduce the camping scenes to montages, you're there!

I don't get it.

What's to get? Two movies, twice as much money.

Ghod, tell me about it. As I read DH, all I could think was why didn't the threesome just hide themselves in the TARDIS ever expanding beaded bag and owl mail themselves from place to place.

Yeah, if they were willing to cut down Goblet of Fire, why not this one? I don't have serious complaints about its length as a book but... there's still plenty you could cut out.

I know it was a different director but still, I don't get it.

Seriously. At least 'Goblet' had enough plot to warrant a longer film.

Reduce the camping scenes and it could be a one-hour television special.

Do I fail?

No, not at all. To be honest I don't get all the gripes about the camping stuff. It's not like stuff didn't happen during that time. I loved it as well. Great character building. Plus, even reducing the camping scenes there's no way they could smush it all in without a bunch of cuts.

I agree. GoF and OotP would have been greatly improved as two-part movies.

See, I'm just going to wait for five or so years to pass from the release of the last movie, then I'm going to batten down the hatches and start praying for a TV miniseries. A big one. That way they can go into ridiculous fan-obsessed detail without having to cut everything down to movie-length. Just make an epic miniseries instead.

Personally, I'd love to see an animated cartoon series of HP done right. That would make me so happy. They don't really make miniseries for children. However, it probably would have better duration as a miniseries. Cartoons usually run the risk of getting canceled.

Yes, that!

I'd love a whole long animated HP series, I think it'd work fabulously.

Yes. (Especially if they somehow got Makani to do the character designs. Which probably won't happen but I can dream.)

Much for the sheer crackfactor, I also want an anime. If the doujinshi market is any indicator, it would contain a long-haired bisihe Voldemort and loads of smiling Weasleys.

And it would be beautiful, beautiful crack =D

But why settle for one thing? HP is big enough that they should be willing to try and milk it for cash for several years to come!

But yes to crack. Crack is always good. Who knows, we might even get Peeves!

He'd totally be a half-bunny or something.

At least I honestly think they'd handle the thing between Harry and Ginny in a clearer way. (that is, no chestmonster, more like ages upon ages of shy blushes and almost-not-quite love confessions)

I would LOVE an animated series. I think it'd be a lot easier to capture the right look or essence of a character with a cartoon than being limited by actual people.

What I really want it an animated series (GOOD animation, damn it) of Garth Nix's Key to the Kingdom series. (Well, what I really, really want is a series of live-action movies, because they would be AWESOME, but there will be seven books with a twelve-year-old protagonist (and several non-aging child side characters), with the action only actually taking place over a couple of weeks. That could be mildly problematic, though a live-action miniseries might work.)

That could actually work better. I've got a DVD of "The 10th Kingdom," and when I watch it I'm happy they didn't try and cram six hours of Scott Cohen numminess a great story into a two hour movie because it would have failed really hard.

I've been saying that for years.

Then again, I've also been saying that they should have waited until the last book came out so they would know which stuff could be easily cut.

Yeah, they're going to have to turn somersaults to make the last two make sense due to stupidity in the first five. My sympathy is limited, mind you.

[info]tofuknight

No sympathy here. The scriptwriters were so idiotic, the only thing that could make up for it in the last two (three now!) is if the movies actually present Harry/Hermione. *blissfully dreams of the wank*

Two movies is the only way they can reproduce the tedious and plodding atmosphere JKR so masterfully captured, while simultaneously giving the audience the true to book niggly feeling that somewhere else something really interesting is going on, and if we'd only stop watching Harry, we could probably get in on it.

I just know that, even after half or more of the fans I used to argue with cried over and over for two movies per book, they'll probably end up complaining in one way or another about this. "Why do I have to wait? THEY SHOULD BE SHOWN BACK-TO-BACK ALL THE TIME EVERYWHERE and never deviate in even a single word from the books and they should look exactly like how I picture them..."

Gah, that just means they're DEFINITELY going to put the epilogue in to fill up the time.

Think they'll try and make the actors look older, or just get older actors who can pass for the Trio and Co.?

Depending on how well they stick to schedule, age makeup might not be required.

It says 2010 and 2011, but still, HP7 takes place with them between 17-18 or 19, while the epilogue has them at least 10 years past that, right? (You can tell I haven't had much motivation to read it again.) They'd need to at least look like they're in their 30s, right?

There's no way they're not going to end the series with a closing shot of the trio as portrayed by Radcliffe, Grint, and Watson. I think they'd, at most, skip ahead five to six years and show a big party at the Burrow or something.

Lol at fandom. They've been whining for years and years about how the movies cut too much, and now when they finally get a chance to have a book to movie adaptation with far more minimal cuts, they just whine. HP fandom=never happy.

I think if it were put up to a vote, this book would be on the top of the 'Plenty of useless crap to cut' list for many fans, unlike previous books. I know I personally was bored out of my skull for most of it.

Sorry you feel that way. I disagree. For me that would be OotP and GoF. They both had loads of subplots and bits that had very little play in the final volumes. GoF especially. I've always felt is the weakest of the latter books...
