Fandom no longer exists! Superficially, anyway.
SUP has edited which interests show up as 'most popular'.

Interests that won't show up no matter how popular they are? Fandom, fan fic, fanfic, fan fiction, porn, fanfiction, girls, boys, sex.

THE CAKE IS A LIE.

If this is more appropriate for [info]6a_cornfield, let me know and I'll move it. It's just that there doesn't seem to be wank about it yet, and I thought people might have fun figuring out what else isn't being counted.

Edit: A table of disappeared interests. "Faeries" has now disappeared as well -- thinly-veiled homophobia or a secret SUP hatred of fey creatures?

Current list of magically disappearing interests: Sex, Boys, Guys, Girls, Fanfiction, Yaoi, Hardcore, Porn, Bondage, Faeries, Pain, Depression, and Bisexuality.

Edit II: [info]luthe says that guys is back on the list.

Edit III: Filter has been removed! Cue discussion of whether or not it was a mistake as Marta claims, which is currently going on in this Fandom Lounge post.

I suppose I can see them wanting to "clean up" interests that have to do with sex and stuff so that they can look all pretty and sparkly and unoffensive (yeah, right). I can even see that they might be leery of the copyright gray areas around fan fiction. But "fandom" becoming a dirty word mystifies me.

Oh, hurr. Copyright issues. I didn't even think of that. Makes sense.

I wonder if they're removing evidence of these interests so they don't have to go after users more? Or am I just verging on Pollyanna here?

I had the same thought. It does seem possible, but that would mean they really did understand their user base and LJ culture, instead of just thinking that they do.

It's about the only plausible explanation so that might be right.

That's what I think, too. Didn't improved_archie get the axe back then because Archie Comics became aware of it?

Why bisexuality, then? Or, uh. faeries?
