Ding Dong, The Filter's Gone
After filtering the most popular lj interests, the filter has been removed. A staff member is claiming that it was a mistake. Oops. Sorry we filtered out some interests. We totally made that filter on accident you guys!

Well, hey, on the bright side, at least they apparently listen to their users sometimes and occasionally make changes based upon that feedback when it suits them?

Poor Marta. I do not envy her her job as the only LiveJournal staff member who seems to give a shit in the least.

"Our bad."

I got into an argument with a co-worker once when I told him to apologize to the person he ran into and replied with "My bad" instead. This lead me to pointing out that "my bad" is not an apology, merely an admission of guilt that didn't mean he was sorry. I've become convinced that it's being used as a "get out of an apology" free card by people everywhere now.

[/boring tangent]

A staff member is claiming that it was a mistake.

I'm sure it totally was.

They were going to wait until next month.

Well, at least by now I've learned to stop giving LJ the benefit of the doubt and assume "Mistake" means "We didn't realize how bad it sounds but had good intentions anyway" when we all know they're just trying to cover up an idiot move with idiot intentions.

You're nicer than I am. I always assume "mistake" means "we didn't realize anyone would notice".

If it was supposed to filter out usernames from the most popular interests list, then why did they miss "slash"--and every other interest that's also a username?

And why would they even want to do that in the first place? I personally like the idea that they're so boneheaded they didn't realize that hey, practically every word in the dictionary is a username now, but it doesn't seeem likely.

But then, filtering out faeries of all things doesn't make sense if you assume they were trying to get rid of undesirable interests. (Unless maybe that's what they WANT us to think. Dun dun dun.)

filtering out faeries of all things doesn't make sense

Sure it does! They're trying to eliminate alternate spellings of popular words. But filtering the undesirable versions, they'll slowly get everyone used to spelling things like "grrls" and "bois" and "pr0ns" and "fairies" and so on and it'll be AWEX0MERS!!!!

... Right?

I was assuming it was because faerie* (sp?) was slang for a gay/effeminate male.

* At least, according to my dad, who apparently learned it on the schoolyard when he was young.

If it was supposed to filter out usernames from the most popular interests list, then why did they miss "slash"--and every other interest that's also a username?

Also, why did it include interests that had spaces in them? Wasn't "fan fic" one of the censored ones?

(Reply to this)(Parent)

[info]darth_wanker

I kinda assumed they skipped slash since it's also the name of a band.

The one I still can't figure out is the "faeries" filter. I just ... why?

I think if there isn't a better explanation than 'a mistake' forthcoming then the wank-splosion will be spectacular.

I'm now wondering if the LJ staff will claim to have Asbergers...or ADHD maybe...

It's not their fault! They were logged on, and went to get a soda. LJ's staff can't be held responsible for what their friends did while they weren't looking.
