Ataniell's views on pureblood bigotry
Unfortunately Ataniell has blocked search engines from her LJ and doesn't seem to have tagged the Pureblood/Death Eater posts I'm looking for, so I'm hoping some of you wankas can confirm what I've gleaned from the various wanks:

1) In spite of the fact of the usage of terms like "Mudblood" and "Blood traitor", and in spite of Bellatrix being shocked when Harry said that Voldemort was a Half-Blood, Death Eaters and Pureblood bigots hate Muggleborns not because of their blood (ancestry/genetics) but only because Muggleborns present a risk to keeping the existence of Wizards secret from Muggles. They only use terms like "Mudblood" because "Security Risk" just doesn't carry any oomph as an insult, and those characters who react to "Mudblood" the way a real-life person might react to the word "Nigger" are over-reacting. Also, Bellatrix reacted like she did beacause... umm, because Voldemort being a Half-Blood meant that he might reveal the existence of Wizards to Muggles?

2a) Sirius said that the Pureblood bigots view Wizards as a different race from Muggles, but he was wrong, wrong, wrong.

2b) Even if he was right, what Pureblood bigots actually believe doesn't make them racist, or even similar to racists, because Wizards aren't actually a different race, and the mere beliefs of a bigot play no role in determining whether or not s/he is racist.

Do I have any of the details wrong? Am I missing anything?

Thanks in advance.

I can't say for sure, but I believe most of her comments regarding pureblood attitudes and bigotry really only apply to her RPG Lightning Wars which is pretty solidly AU for anything post Goblet of fire. I *think* she gave up on canon completely as of Order of the Phoenix, so applying her comments about her Malfoys to canon is kind of like comparing apples and oranges.
I'll step back into lurking now because as an ex LW player, I can never be considered unbiased by either side of the mockery, and I haven't had any contact with Az for years so my memory may be faulty.

Huh. Given how annoyed she seemed by people calling Pureblood bigots "racist", I would think that she was talking about more than just her RP (unless she secretly thought that everyone was talking about her RP rather than the books).

I know she was an active slytherin defender for quite some time, but I can't say for sure where the line between canon, LW and who knows what else is drawn.
Since I left LW I avoid areas I hear she hangs around, so I haven't been exposed to anything but wank reports in ages.

I think half the time she's annoyed because folks seem to think that what she speculates as Pureblood beliefs/thoughts = her beliefs/thoughts. You know, the usual "if your characters believe this, you must too, you bigot!" silliness. However, this is based on what she writes on her journal - I don't frequent HP-meta comms much, so no clue what she says at those places.

Given how much she identifies with/admires the Malfoys and Tom Riddle, and her defense of onlyinfatuated, it's not surprising, though.

And other folks *never* reply to posts and comments channeling their RPG character(s)? (Not saying she did, just speculating since she does run a Slytherin-centric RPG and so would have a good bit of head-space for them.)

...

wow, people *do* that? Like...like, they go to their own LJ, and can't get OOC?

...

I'm not...sure...if that helps her case.

Maybe I hang around some LJ RPG folks too much or something, but yes, they do. Although they usually indicate it is what (they think) their character would think and not their personal opinion. Thing with ataniell is that she sometimes don't communicate clearly, so her not stating she's "channeling" her character's opinion isn't hard to believe. (Did that make sense? >.>a)

*shrugs* No clue if it helps her case or not. I don't go to HP-meta places much, and I haven't looked up her RPG. I'm going just by her behavior in her journal; if her behavior is different elsewhere, I'd have no clue--unless it turns up on fw, that is.

I remember back when I was a relative n00b to LJ land, discussing/arguing some point of *canon* with her, back and forth with several comments, when she brought in something about one of her RPG characters, and I was rather: what? I doubt I'm the only person that happened to.

Her over-identification and defense of onlyinfatuated was never in-character.

That sounds about right. I recall her making those arguments in meta-type posts that other people had put up as well.

Yeah, or we could stop trying to hunt down Ataniell for wank material already. Isn't it getting old?

Because no one ever likes revisiting old wanks for old time's sake when they're bored.

He's not stalking her journal, he's asking about things that are easily accessible to anyone checking the F_W wiki. He's just, apparently, too lazy to check the wiki.

Her article was on the chopping block for a while, but then she came back, in all her wondrous glory.

Also, there was that shining moment of joy when she TOTALLY smacked down fpb.

That was wonderful, wasn't it? The comment of hers that he deleted is preserved on the wiki.

I did check the wiki, and read her comments in the Slytherinfanatics wank. I just wanted to make sure that I was understanding her properly, since I couldn't find anything of Ataniell's about Purebloods besides the Slytherinfanatics wank.

Oh! Sorry, I must have misunderstood what you were asking. At any rate, it's not trolling her for wank, it's just discussing past stuff.

Oh, come now. There's at least some gold in the Chronicles of a wank fortold, and I know there is some wank in the Dracofen = TomFeltonfen thing.

You might have to dig, dig, dig through the comments, though.

She pretty much spelled the stuff out during the Slytherfanatics thing. The wiki article on it is here.

Is this the same person who wrote the essay about the value of "prejudism" and used the analogy of teaching children not to touch stoves? And the essay entitled "Why Malfoy Is My Wooby Wuvmuffin Babycakes" or something to that effect? Or is that someone else with a similar brand of insanity?

I got as far as "...I would share those Pureblood sentiments" before my brain started spinning inside my head like a spinning top, and the need to lay down overcame me.
