Remember, once upon a time, when kids made threatening type lists and it wasn't blamed on anime/manga? Nowadays it seems some kid is getting in trouble at school about every month for a "Death Note".

Well, it's not like Marilyn Manson is popular enough to blame anymore.

Or D&D. Heck, some of those kids were in VA and not 10 (?) years ago, I could take my D&D books to a Virginia public school to read at lunch.

Funny enough, that was the year Columbine happened and my parents hung on to the trenchcoat I was supposed to get for Christmas until things calmed down. People will blame anything for kids and teens being stupid. When giant robot armies rampage through Downtown Atlanta? The Steampunk community will be next.

To be fair, when giant robots rampage downtown Atlanta, it probably will be the steampunk people at fault.

Yes, but then they'll find all the Lovecraft and Poe and decide it's Satanic, then only outlaws will have rayguns and schoolchildren will have their brass goggles and pocket watches confiscated.

I tell ya, it's a sad day when kindergarteners are arrested for reading Jules Verne!

Now, now, when kids start making lists of people to kill, it's obvious you should blame the media first, and not a shitty school system or overactive imaginations. Duh.

No one ever made a list of people they wanted to kill until Death Note was written.

(Though honestly, I never bought one of those "Death Note" notebooks because I'd be afraid to write anyone's name down in them. Not seriously, but on a certain dumbass level.)

Yeah, but someone got killed that time. Some kids buried their friend in sand and left him there, thinking he would manipulate the sand around him like some Naruto character (I forgot which one), and he died. Something similar happened in Indonesia last year as well :(

So the... authorities actually think that Death Notes are real? Because that's what I'm getting from this.

I sang that one over thirty years ago. Slightly different lyrics... I can't believe I remember that.

But this was before Death Note. We had to scratch our enemies names into rocks with our teeth and watch Speed Racer on UHF!

Joy to the world, the teacher's dead~ We barbequed his head~ And what of the body~? We flushed it down the potty~

...I think that, for an embarrassingly long amount of time, I had no idea that those weren't the "official" lyrics for that tune.

We had Dominican nuns teaching in our Catholic high school. Wanting to kill them wasn't a cute little hobby; it was survivalist thinking.

(For those not RC, Dominicans were the ones who came up with that quaint little group no one expects the Spanish Inquisition. Those nuns goal in life was to put the fear of them and God into you -- and mostly in that order.)

Oh, wow. And guess what I'm doing my final project for my studio class on! I even bought a Death Note notebook just for it. (It's full of typos that are amusing just because they're so dumb.) But, then again, I'm hoping to work around actually having anyone write directly in it — they're either going to fake writing with a pen that doesn't work or write on a piece of paper I put into the notebook.

I guess my classmates weren't so far off when they warned me about letting the administration see it, though. I wonder if they'll suspect me for trying to kill Ray Penber — since his name is in there and all, I mean.
