Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Capcom's just made a whole lot of people very happy.
Hold it! Capcom announces a Phoenix Wright prequel, Gyakuten Kenji (Turnabout Prosecutor), starring everyone's favorite pink wearing prosecutor, Edgeworth!

Like the previous AA games, Kenji will focus on crime scene investigation (but not courtroom theatrics). This time the action follows Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth and Detective Dick Gumshoe. Using new gameplay systems, you'll check out crime scenes for unseen evidence, and argue cases in court. Unlike Saiban, Edgeworth will actually be visible on screen, making this more of a point-and-click adventure, versus a graphical text adventure.

The only way Capcom could make fans of the games happier is if they announced it was going to get a same day release in Japan and everywhere else.

Or if they announced another spin-off with just Dick Gumshoe... What? It could be like Pokemon where they release two versions of the same game. Or something.

Originally heard about this news via the CAG forums. I was somewhat surprised by the, um, turnabout for this game, but Capcom did hint at a new entry in the series not too long ago.

I do wonder though who the defense attorney(s?) is(are?) gonna be.

Hooray!

(Now, to spend the long bus ride this weekend in catching up on Phoenix Wright -- I'm still on Case 2 of the 2nd game.)

YES.

Perhaps this will also mean an upswing in Gumshoe/Edgeworth fics as well (I hope, I hope, I hope).

I've never actually looked (I just started playing the games, um, like two weeks ago) but surely there must be some? I mean, Gumshoe's amazing mancrush is not exactly subtle.

I think I've found one in all the times I've searched. This may either mean I suck at searching, am lazy, or there really aren't that many out there.

must not take this as an excuse to get back into ficwriting must not take this as an excuse to get back into ficwriting

In my heart Phoenix/Edgeworth will always come first - I know, I know, I'm predictable as all get out - but I am not picky and Gumshoe needs love too.

Slogging, really? I found the last cases in all four games to be ~fab~ without fail. Well. Except for #2. But Oldbag + ray gun made up for it.

Oh you run into Edgeworth shortly after the crime happens, in a manner of speaking...get through the first day and it'll be VERY worth it, I promise! That case is my favorite of all the games <3

Oh my god it feels like my inner point-and-click adventure fan (who is about as old as the rest of me, considering that just about the first thing I ever used a computer for was Loom, not that I have ever talked to anyone outside my family besides Steve Purcell who remembers that game) and my inner Edgeworth fan are having hot kinky sex to celebrate. Yesssss.

Loom! That was my first PC adventure game too, back when I was just a kidlet--and I was just thinking today about the scene where someone tries to look under the hood of Bobbin's cloak and dies horribly.

I am still a little irked that the two sequels never got made, not for lack of money or sales figures but because no one at the company was interested enough in working on them.

Haha, that was great. If by great I mean kind of unsettling. Oh, god, and Bishop Mandible exploding. D: That was all Steve Purcell - I got to talk with him about it a little. Somehow, learning it was his work is not a surprise.

In retrospect that game was pretty creepy. I think I have to buy another copy now. It is one of my favorites ever.

Yeah, I read about the sequels a while ago. So depressing, considering I always wanted a sequel. (I do think it's pretty funny that the second game sounds a lot like the thing I hacked a plot together for back in junior high. Great minds?) But at least they were busy on good stuff for the most part... and I choose to believe it could happen at Telltale now because obviously that's really likely

When I first saw it I said "It can't be true!" but apparently it is.

More Gumshoe and more Edgeworth? I couldn't be happier.

Well, OK, Franziska would make theoretically me happier but that is NOT a complaint because Gumshoe and Edgeworth are more than enough.

It occurs to me, weren't the other games released with an English option in Japan and playable on the American DS? Would that possibly be the case here? Or am I confused about the whole thing? *hopes anyway*

From what I know, and I may be wrong so someone can come and hit me with a trout, but I do believe that DS games do not have any special regional coding at all. Meaning you can purchase Japanese DS games and play them on your US DS and vice versa.

[info]rosehiptea

I'm pretty sure on that too. And I thought the first three PW games had an English option in Japan, but I don't know about the fourth. *is not an expert*

This is true! I played two or three of them on my normal garden variety DS, no problems.

Although fair warning - the translations occasionally featured some slightly boggle-worthy Engrish (whether this is a plus or a minus is probably a matter of opinion). Not very much at all, just enough to make me either laugh or squint funny at the DS from time to time.

ALSO EEEEE EDGEWORTH. I FEEL FAINT.
