Reaffirming Your Faith In Just About Everything
*ahem*

If you have not yet seen this new ad for the Discovery Channel, you totally should.

It's got everything -- astronauts, singing Egyptologists, Mike Rowe, Bear Grylls serenading a tarantula, giant squid, Adam Savage with a flame thrower, and Stephen Hawking singing -- and wraps it all up with an old campfire song and tops it with the best slogan ever: "The World Is Just Awesome."

(If you have seen a version of this on the network, you may have seen the shorter, Hawkings-less one -- this is still worth a gander.)

I have watched this about 58 times already. :-) If this thing doesn't win a Clio award I'm going to kick someone.

Edit: This just in! Apparently there was some Yay-Discovery event, at which some stars appeared with a chorus of kids and did a live version of this! No Mythbusters, but you get Mike Rowe, Bear Grylls, the guy from Cash Cab, and -- yes -- some of the crew from DEADLIEST CATCH! Singing live!

Oh, my goodness, I was already in love with the short version! And it uses one of my favorite camp songs ever (my dood thought I was nuts, because this sent me on a crazy camp-song-finding rampage).

Epic win.

I was hoping the singing Egyptologist would be my adviser, who is trufax in a barbershop quartet and also does Gilbert and Sullivan plays from time to time. :p

Aside from that, all I really have to say is . . . D'AWWWW!

Now I'm wishing I had cable so I can watch Discovery channel 24/7. *goes to futz with her budget to see if she can squeeze the money for DirectTV in it*

Neat. I saw the long version last weekend, and I wanted to show my roommates the "arachanids" part. But they've only been playing the short version whenever I click over to Discovery.

This thing choked me up when I first saw it. It's such a lovely little break from all the DISASTER FIRE STARVATION PANIC BULLETS BULLETS BULLETS that we get hit with every day.

"The world is an awesome place." And it IS, damn it.

I love that commercial. Mostly because it's funny to imagine the Deadly Catch guys breaking out in song in the middle of catching pots. It makes me "hee!" every time I catch it.

I love this commercial! Except for the fear that in the next scene, Bear Grylls is gonna start talking about the protein value of large arachnids and about whether you need to cook the adults or just pull the legs off and swallow them down.

Man vs. Gag Reflex: no lie.
