Earthbound might be coming to the Wii! It was rated for the Wii by the ESRB, so hopefully this means Nintendo will be releasing it soon. Sounds like they've gotten other games rated that went nowhere, but considering the demand for a VC release of the game, the Internet is hopeful.

Nice. Now if only we could get Earthbound Zero and Earthbound 3 as well.

*crosses fingers* It would be awesome if it turned out to be true. No more dragging out the SNES to play it.

I hope it's okay that half my interest in this is the ongoing fandom reaction? If EB on VC doesn't happen soon, the entire population of Starmen.net may very well explode, given how close they already are to terminal levels of Nerd Rage.

(Said as someone who has an account there and has participated in Nerd Rage Events, I should add. And as someone who might try to pick up a Wii just for EBVC.)

...wow, I was just thinking of that myself. That's the primary reason I'm interested: I want to see the wanksplosion from them if it doesn't come out soon.

I mean, Starmen.net is very dedicated and it's nice to see such a thriving fanbase, but they can get really crazy at times, considering that it sometimes tends to go into "ONOES NINTENDO IS OPPRESSING US".

They're still not as crazy as the Brawl fans, though. Although that's not really saying much...

But don't you understand that it's all Reggie's fault? ALL. REGGIE'S. FAULT. Even when it couldn't possibly be. (I'm sure there's someone on SM.net who's convinced Itoi's lack of desire to make a Mother 4 comes from being strongarmed by Reggie.)

I, for one, am saddened that no one ever seems to remember the awesomesauce Lufia 2 was. D:

Lufia 2 was sheer awesome! It's one of maybe 3 games I actually finished in the SNES era because I just loved it that much.

I admit it. I'm a gamer girl and I have NO IDEA what Lufia 2 is. Enlighten me while I go find a rom of it?

Lufia 2 was in some ways, your standard rpg. It was about the heroic ancestor of the hero of the first Lufia. So in the first one, you have the descendent of the hero dealing with the four demons that his ancestor sealed away awakening. And you also know that one of the four demons is a bit more sympathetic, shall we say. Spoilers for Lufia 1: Basically, one of the four had been sealed into/reincarnated as the hero's childhood friend/love interest/Mysterious Girl.

Lufia II sets up the story of Lufia I. It's the same basic story about young boy saving the world, except for the fact that A) Maxim is more of an adult, b) he has an utterly awesome love interest who kicks ass in her own right and I still ship them like burning and mild spoilers: they actually get married midway through the game, which makes a nice change from offscreen post-ending presumed marriages, c) it sets up the spoilery bit in the previous paragraph awesomely. The gameplay as I recall is pretty average for the era - your basic rpg menu driven stuff, although the mages actually have enough MP so that you don't have to reserve the magic for boss fights if you don't want to. So the mages are actually useful for once.

Also Dekar's pretty much one of my favorite dumb jock characters of all time.

Sorry for the html screwups.

Building off the above, just think of the whole game as a mix between The Legend of Zelda and a standard RPG. Nearly all the dungeons in the game have puzzles you need to solve before you can advance, and you get special tools to help you do that along the way.

It mixes both genres very well, and it's an absolute blast to play through.
