Yahtzee of Zero Punctuation received a lot of hatemail (well, more than usual) after his Smash Bros Brawl review. (He didn't like it. *shock*) So this week instead of reviewing another game, he decided to make fun of respond to some of the hate.

As a non-gamer, that was beautiful.

It's not even that he didn't like it. He was just "meh" about it, which says a lot more about the people writing in to whine bitch disagree than anything else. Then again, it's not surprising. The fanbrats about this game have been utterly ridiculous. The number of names I've been called for not even pretending to be interested in Smash Bros has been astounding.

I have to agree with you on that one.

Oh god Brawl fanbrats. DX I have to deal with them almost daily, so to see them get all butthurt makes me smile a little inside.

Because most of the time Yahtzee is a soft-spoken sort of guy who's overflowing with praise and adulation for every game he plays.

(I'd fangirl him, but I think he'd find it offensive.)

I believe he once compared the rabid fangirls who ship him to smelly meat. That said, there are plenty of guys happy to fellate him in the comments, I doubt he'd notice one more.

I love half the games he reviews (Mass Effect, Heavenly Sword, and Psychonauts for example) and I still get a huge kick out of him. I'm not sure if my husband doesn't because he has a grudge against game critics or because he can't understand unfamiliar accents at high speeds.

Despite utterly loving Yahtzee and wanting to have his internet babies, I will confess that I utterly and totally disagreed with his Brawl review 100%, being a shameless SSB fangirl as I am.

And you know what I did? Said to myself, "Huh, I disagree with his review 100%, go fig," then wandered off to go read porn instead until his next review.

All this time, I thought that was the mature, sensible way to disagree with what Yahtzee says. M I DOIN IT WRONG? ;_;

When he got to the part about any idiot could be good at a fighting game by mashing buttons I thought, "boy, I must be a special kind of idiot" 'cause I can't play fighting games worth a damn (except for Clay Fighters 63 1/3, which I desperately want a copy of). I thought the review was unfair, but it seemed dumb to argue over it.

I disagreed to, and I disagreed with his Halo review because he openly neglected the multiplayer and it is essentially a multiplayer game. But I know his whole thing is to hate the games he reviews, he's said about as much, so there's no point in taking it seriously.

As an old school turned base RPG gamer who tends to like the very games he makes fun of, I've long since concluded that his tastes in gaming are (no surprise) going to vary with mine on a weekly basis.

However, he states his distaste for certain games with such eloquence, such grace and artistry, such foul-mouthed glee, that I can but sit in awe of his talent for expressing himself.

In other words, it's not what he says but how he says it.

See, now you're getting the point. Yahtzee's just mouthing off about his own opinion in an entertaining fashion and he's never claimed to be doing anything else.

I swear, he probably designed the SSBB review just to get that kind of response so he'd have an excuse to go off on the twits who e-mail him. Personally, I love Brawl, but if I had any issue with his review it was that it wasn't as vicious or funny as his review of, say, Tomb Raider.

Also, I need to make more ZP icons. I'm trying to find the review with "Bother this nonsense" so I can make an icon out of it, but haven't had time to hunt it down.

I think he should just have a button saying "Another great review" people could press so they didn't have to take all the time and effort to type it out. It doesn't matter what the review was (or even if it was, strictly speaking, a review) there are always about 50 people who just post those three words.

Yahtzee was funny at first, but now all I see in his videos are the anti-woman jibes and the gay jokes. It's totally my issue, brought about by a lot of homophobic and misogynist shit online lately. This is why I can't have nice things.

Oh, Yahtzee.

As much as I like Super Smash Brothers and fighting games in general, he pretty much hit the nail on the head about how fighting games work when it comes to randomly mashing buttons.

But I don't know. I only like his crude humor and I just like his jokes cause I'm immature. 8(

I think Zero Punctuation is generally pretty funny, but I probably would've preferred another game review to this mailbag thing. Not that it didn't have its moments, but the whole "calling out my critics" aspect was a little grating.

I love Yahtzee like I love taffy. I haven't watched his mailbag yet this week, though. I really enjoy Brawl, but I could see some of the reasons why he was unhappy with it.

Also, re: your icon; I can't stop staring at Snake's package. Please send help.
