Gore Verbinski is making a BioShock movie. John Logan is adapting it. I'm not entirely sure how to feel, but I'm curious to see how they deal with the little sisters on the silver screen.

He's also got his eyes on Portal, which worries me.

I'm... what the heck is a 'little sister'? All I know is that one Penny Arcade strip I didn't quite get and some rant somewhere where they didn't teach morality at all.

It looks distressing.

The "little sisters" are little girls who have been turned into weird creepy-looking (and creepy-sounding OMFG) quasi-vampiric glowy-eyed mutants for the sake of harvesting the game's designated magic fluid-stuff. After taking out their guardians, you can choose to "harvest" them for their magic fluid (...that sounds even more wrong than it should) or "save" them, recovering a bit less of the stuff which lets you gain new powers. Of course, this "moral decision" is the only thing that determines which "ending" you're given at the end of the game.

And in case that wasn't explicit enough, 'harvest' generally involves bludgeoning them to death and imbibing the slug in their stomach.

Well, the other option is caressing their heads with one hand so they glow and then the weird blank yellow shine goes out of their eyes and they run away happily.

I always made my friend pick the 'save' option.

That scared the crap out of me the first time it happened.

I figured if that's the good option, I don't want to see the bad one. Haven't even gone to YouTube to see it yet.

Nobody's mentioned that they stab corpses, which they call angels, with a huge needle and then drink the fluid from the needle yet, either.

I forgot how creepy that game is.

Zombie schoolgirls in the non-porno way, near as I can tell.

It sounds like he at least likes the right things about the game, and doesn't have any plans to dumb it down. I'm not yet cringing at the idea, at least.

OTOH, I really don't think a Portal movie would be such a good idea.

I'm trying to figure out how the hell you would do Portal.
I mean, I only played it halfway through but its not very...cinematic?

I think GlaDOS is quite fascinating. I just assume that a Portal film wouldn't have to be about the testing procedure, it could be about Aperture Science as a whole or something.

That'd be cool. Flesh out the main character and figure out how to escape/bring down Aperture Science, perhaps.

How 'bout Cameron Philips/GlaDOS?

I'm going to have to go with "Let's wait and see" on this one. I mean, he did great with Pirates, but that doesn't mean he won't completely screw this one up somehow.

I'm curious how they'll handle certain things (The main character, the Little Sisters and Sander Cohen come to mind.)

If they're making it R rated, I think they can go nuts with Sander Cohen. He's a pretty creepy bastard for all of the twenty minutes you interact with him.

Excuse me while I go fling myself across Portal. Do not toooooouch. It's a short enough game in the first place and half the fun is in solving the puzzles so not really sure how that would translate into a movie at all.

I'll be counting on Valve to take good care of Portal. That is to say, they're not a large and faceless company. They're rather small, so I'd like to pretend that they care a bit more. I don't think just give the Portal rights to anyone if they thought it would make a poor movie. It might make them money, but poor movies about video games make for bad advertising for those games. Kind of bad then for publicity, IMO.

Though I admit I'm talking out of my ass here. The author for The Golden Compass said his idea was to 'take the money and run', so what do I know? At least this isn't Uwe Boll - and they aren't going to try to make a movie out of TF2.

As with Bioshock, I'm also very curious to see how this director handles it. If done well, the effects alone might be worth seeing the movie in theatres for. :)

I have great faith in Valve that they will take care of Portal. They do seem to be one of those developers that cares a lot about overall quality, much like Blizzard.

I would LOVE a TF2 movie. Actually, a series would work better. But still, that would be awesomesauce.

Speaking of Portal, has anyone tried the new (non-Valve) map pack based on the Flash version? Is it any good?
