Fraggle Rock and The Electric Company are being revived - the former as a live-action movie, the latter for an updated run on PBS.

E! just picked that up? The Fraggle Rock movie was announced in 2006.

But now it's been picked up by the Weinstein company, making it that much closer to being reality (perhaps cracktastic reality, but I CANNOT WAIT)

And OMG! For once my icon actually pertains to the topic!

Weinstein might do good with it though, so the news ain't all that tragic.

So how exactly do puppets made out of felt and old shag carpeting translate into a live action movie? I predict it will be full of crack and hilarity.

Presumably that's what's meant by "live-action" - the alternative being to render the characters as CGI.

They probably mean that it's puppets and people (since it's supposed to be in 'Outer Space') as opposed to CGI or any other animation.

Holy crap, a Fraggle Rock movie could be really cool. As long as the Fraggles stay puppets, that is... if they change that, that's a dealbreaker for me.

Word.

But since it's being touted as "live action" I'm pretty sure that means they're still muppets.

I wonder if the next box set release will have any features about this?

They should totally bring Morgan Freeman back as Easy Reader.

I'm willing to give Fraggle Rock a chance, especially if the puppets are a go, but Electric Company? Bzzt, no. 'Updated' is usually corporate-speak for 'Let's fuck this up and get lots of money from it!'.

I don't know how they could screw up Electric Company, though. If what they're talking about is "literacy-promoting sketch comedy show for 1st through 3rd graders," there isn't anything like it on the air right now as far as I know, especially not on over-the-air TV.

The original version was smart, clever, and hip.

Look at what The Elmo Show Sesame Street is like now and tell me you don't think they'll screw up TEC. Seriously.
