I think there were one or two guys, at least one in the shower scene, but the focus is on Echo.

Somehow better than I thought it would be, considering all the race/gender issues that will inevitably arise.

What is it with Joss and the whole "some outside force removes a woman's agency over her life but gives her SUPERPOWERS" trope?

It... it looks kind of like a weird hybrid of "Dark City" and that show Jessica Alba started out on ("Dark Angel", I think?).

[info]iwanttobeasleep
2008-05-16 07:21 pm UTC (link)
You're right about Dark Angel. Except in Dark Angel they kept their memories and personalities, Jessica Alba was kick ass, and there was a non-stereotypical lesbian character.

I really miss that show. The first season, anyway.

Dark Angel was my first real fandom. First real shipping wars, first real mail-in campaign to keep them from cancelling it, first real "What the hell are you ON, writers?" reaction. Good times.

It was the first TV show that I seriously followed, but I did not yet know about the world of fandom at that point. Man, I can't believe it was on almost a decade ago now!

I also love it because it's a Vancouver scifi show, and I have a special place in my heart for that. I mean, seriously, the lush ferny rainforests of Wyoming?

[info]frequentmouse

There's this one spring-board logged cedar stump which I swear shows up in every road scene in every Vancouver filmed show ever. That, and the fact that I can tell to within a couple of weeks when anything's been filmed by the stage of growth and bloom on the understory plants keeps me from throwing things at the TV when SGA gets dumb.

I've stayed in the hotel in Burnaby across the street from the Stargate soundstages, and squeed a little when you distantly glimpse it in SG-1, in the 100th episode.

It's a shitty hotel, though. That was basically the only good thing about it.

In my world, it didn't. Fucking Fox canceled it while it was still awesome. (I don't even know if it was on Fox but I am blaming them anyway.)

[info]tiye
2008-05-16 10:10 pm UTC (link)
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was Fox. My husband and I have talked about how awesome it would be if they did a movie and retcon'd the second season out of existence. Not gonna happen, of course, but it's a nice thought.

[info]iwanttobeasleep
2008-05-16 10:16 pm UTC (link)
Yeah. I think they actually commented that after 9/11 they were really worried to keep going in the current vein of the plot, which is why they went more hardcore scifi. But. . .Fucking Fox.

I would like to watch this except I really really really dislike Eliza Dushku. I can't explain why, but to me she is like someone scraping their fingernails on a chalkboard...for 24 hours straight. I'm stuck on season 3 of my super epic Buffy marathon because I can't stand her.

Yeah, but SOMETHING is going to have to sustain the inevitable spin-off graphic novels.
