For me it was the secret clans and awesome ninja powers that felt very romanticized. The entire storyline is somewhat romantic: the hero with a secret past, the star-crossed love, and so on. It felt like that was intentional, though, and balanced nicely with things like destitute peasants. You may have more experience with Japanese-inspired fantasy than I do. I'm used to seeing creators take the "cool" parts and leaving the "not-so-cool" parts. Post a comment in response: |
