Most of the games that have already been mentioned are awesome, and they'll last you a good long time, but CrossworDS is also a good one if you like, say, crossword puzzles.

Pokemon (in either Diamond or Pearl flavour) is a must. It actually does get a bit challenging at points, but it has a gentle learning curve, so you'll get the hang of it long before any challenge comes.
