Must share story about Twilight party
So there was a "Breaking Dawn" party at the local bookstore last night. One of my kids went with some friends even though they don't read the books. They just wanted to watch the show (and win Twilight-branded Godiva chocolate bars for their outrageous outfits). The theme was "prom." At least one girl came as Bella in a wedding dress, and another cross-dressed as Edward for the same occasion.

It was also covered in the local paper. Best quote:

"I like that it was written by a mom, not a writer," Maggie.., 18, said through fake fangs. "It's the perfect book. It's what everyone wants — a model boyfriend who glows. It's relatable."

You have to appreciate someone that includes geeky little tidbits into their reviews on just how special that book wasn't. I read the first couple pages of the leaked bits, and good lord. I'd take my really, really ashamed to have written fic over that. Saying a lot, too.

I tried to talk my sister-in-law out of buying it. I tried to explain that IT STINKS. The writing STINKS and the characters STINK but she wouldn't listen.

*sniffle* I tried! I tried so hard!

I'm so sorry for you. You should have printed out the copied version to prove it. I mean, god knows, how long can you talk about your fiancee being mean enough to buy you an awesome car because you're 'fragile'. I kinda wanted to just stake Bella then, and that's all I've ever read about of the saga.

On the plus side, you can tell her to sale it on Ebay or Amazon before she throws it into the fire pit, and get some money back. And she gets to share the moments of anguish with another unsuspecting person without lining SM's pocket.

This is the gal that thought 'The Davinci Code' was high art so I don't think she'll reject SM at all. Woe unto me.

Well, that's just evil and wrong. So wrong. If SM is a good author, I'll just read the Pit for free instead.

I'm curious

Since the only thing I know about the Twilight series is anything learned from reading F_W and my flist but is writing 'SMeyer' a fandom thing and more so, an other-than-LJ-or-JF thing? Writers in newspapers don't refer to her that way too, right? That was the first thing that stuck out at me while reading that Amazon review.

Also, are 'Billa and Bilward' canon or did that person just make it up? Either way, LOL!

Not canon, just a person making a joke based on the lame naming smoosh of Renesme (it doesn't even sound good...)

You know, I'm not entirely sure. I'm not in the fandom. I got through 3 pages of BD, the only thing I'd ever read by Meyer and I ran screaming. I like my brain and it's so damn expensive to replace. Who has a spare couple million lying around?

I'm not entirely sure but I swear I heard the phrase before. Probably around fandoms.
