I, for one, would treasure a picture I had taken of an injured celebrity trapped in their wrecked car. It's not like it would be physical proof of my classlessness or anything.

When one person tried to snap a photo with a cell phone camera, McFerrin said Freeman joked, "no freebies, no freebies."

At least it sounds like he wasn't really terribly injured, if he was making jokes?

Not to mention he's really low-key and a flashy car would give him too much attention in a small town. I saw him on one of Rachel Ray's shows that showcased his restaurants. He doesn't really even deal with Hollywood if he can help it. You've got to respect that.

Since no one's updated the post...

There's a statement out from his rep, which says he has a broken arm, elbow and has minor shoulder damage. So it sounds like hopefully it's less serious than some of the earlier reports were implying.

I think with someone his age, the hospitals tend to go with worst case scenario and then calm down. Because 71 and mangled bones is Not Good, even if you are Morgan Freeman.
