Change the profile? Claire, that's disgusting.
New LJ profile design goes live today. With no opt-out option, and LJ pretending to give a shit about "user comments".

So, thoughts? I think it's fucking ugly as hell.

Um... I research well and I'm often pointlessly curious. And using LJ's Directory Search, and given enough info from the JF profile, it's not that hard to find a matching LJ account. No worries, I'm no Laura Hale -- i.e. I would never publicize anything deliberately kept separate/private -- and I'll definitely forget the name in a day or less. Sorry to be so nosy. :/

My personal silliness aside -- shame about the IE, since Firefox's Stylish addon could probably make your life easier by letting you make the page look more like you want it to. (Although it's possible that IE's IEPro addon has an option for custom CSS in there somewhere.) Does a text size increase help you at all, at least?

Okay, thanks for the explanation. I have been stalked by the cult that I belonged to, so I'm very particular about not taking the same name in any two similar places. And keeping my profile difficult to figure out for people who know me IRL. I think I'll go delete some interests from my JF profile to make it a little tougher to track me. (Yeah, I know I sound paranoid, but it's with pretty good reason.)

The IE is because I work at home and my work's server will not function in anything but IE. I tried the whole two-browser thing, but having to mentally reorient every time I stop working and start surfing-for-the-heck-of-it is too annoying. I have no clue about IE addons, I'm not CSS-literate and wouldn't have the first idea how to install them. A text size would help, if I could figure out how to do that. I'll probably end up making a bunch of reading filters, which is still annoying, but marginally less annoying than trying to read that horribly-designed piece of crap.

Ack, very sorry to make you justifiably paranoid, I do apologize for my curiosity. :/

Anyway, text size shifting is really simple when you know it: Ctrl+ for larger, Ctrl- for smaller. I noticed it pagestretches even worse when larger, though, so if you do try that, I'd also go with the Vertigo scheme, which shrinks the width of those friend detail paragraphs by quite a bit.

If you do go for the filter option, I'd recommend turning on the Navigation Strip. I know it's one of those Yet Another LJ Useless Change, but it's got one very helpful thing -- when reading a friendspage, it has a drop-down to let you choose which filter to view. Much simpler than the old way of bookmarking each filter URL...

Ctrl+ Ctrl- doesn't do anything. I know that works on my desktop (found it by accident while using Vent one day), so I'm assuming it's an XP thing? (I'm running 2000 Pro because I like it a lot better. Less screen clutter on a laptop.) I don't actually think the font size is the problem, now that I look at it again, it looks to be only slightly smaller if at all from what it was. I guess it's the way it uses white space?

Using reading filters is a heck of a lot easier than turning on the Nav Strip, which I deeply detest, or Vertigo (when I prefer Xcolibur). I just wish there were a bloody opt-out. Thanks for the help, though. :)
