THE MADNESS BEGINS
Shrieking masses descend on L.A. for the 'Twilight' premiere

“We drove from the Bay Area yesterday, got in line at midnight last night, slept out here, took the day off work, and stood all day in order to fulfill a dream to take a picture or get an autograph from the stars,” enthused Cyndee Sauceda, 40, who works in a law office. “And if that doesn’t work out, it will all still be worth it if we get to touch Kellan Lutz or Robert Pattinson.”

My fandom is normal. We just dress up like Jedi to wait in line for our movies.

Hey, there's nothing un-awesome about that. I mean, you get to wave a lightsaber around!

I dressed up in an Episode II Padme costume, though, not a Jedi.

In my fandom, people walk around in corsets screaming GRAAAAAAAAAAAAVVEEESSS!!!1 and TESTIFY!!!!!!111 and carry around little blue glo-sticks.

My fiance asked me what my jesters hat had to do with Repo! and I said "Nothing, this is my goth attire."

I watched a live feed and got a screencap of the crowd. My favorite part was, "Robert Pattinson is about seven interviews away from us... people are climbing the barricades! There go the security guys!"

By the way--people are in the comments of the EW "ABC's obsession with Bolt" article totally calling them out on their pot/kettle shit.

Oh, and someone got a Sparklypoo t-shirt signed.

Oh, and meanwhile,

When some of the Twilight cast members attended the ‘Much Music’ event in Toronto on Saturday the 15th of November, Rob was curled up in a ball during the interview session. He said that it was the only position that made him feel safe – that it was his ‘safety blanket’. Somehow, that really disturbed me. Why should he feel terrified? Why wasn’t he relaxed, sitting upright and smiling like Nikki or Rachelle?

The closer we get to The Day, the more my urge to go troll the shrieking masses at midnight grows. Preferably with a sign (written in glitter glue) that says "Real Vampires Don't Sparkle" on one side and "It's Not Love, It's Stalking" on the other.

JESUS CHRIST:

Just the other day, Pattinson realized, "there were some girls who had scratched ... the side of their necks so [they were] freshly bleeding when they came up to get a signature.

"They were like, 'We did this for you.' I didn't know what to say. 'Um, thanks guys?'"

Dear Twilight fandom,

You know that thing where, every time we think you're hitting the pinnacle of crazy, you completely outdo yourself? Yeah, YOU CAN STOP THAT ANY TIME.

Love and terror,

At what point do you pull your daughter aside and go "Okay honey, now for some HEALTHY interests."

I realize that some of the most wacky are TwiMoms. That doesn't stop me from thinking that at least the younger girls would be well served by being forced to watch a couple of seasons of Buffy or summat.

It's so fucking hilarious watching the mainstream non-fannish types suddenly get exposed to Twilight fandom and make with the bewilderment. My mom came to me after the local news did a "what is up with this Twilight stuff?!" story and asked me to explain it all to her because being an HP/Trek/Star Wars fan means I can translate from Crazy People to English.

Doubly hilarious was the o.O face she made when I gently explained that these people were so batshit insane I didn't even understand them.

See, THAT is what's skeeving me. If all of the crazy fans were teens, I could pass it off as general teenage girl craziness. But these are ADULT WOMEN, with CHILDREN and their own HIGH-PAYING JOBS (a freaking law office!).

It's like ... filled me with this fear that any potential woman can go utterly batshit fucknut crazy at the drop of a hat. *eyedart*

Personally, I would have emphasised the part where they pinning the success of their venture on being able to touch another person who doesn't even know them. It's a little creepy!

(Yes yes I know it's fairly common but it's still creepy.)
