JKR shows a middle finger to SVA by saying at the release party for The Tales of Beedle the Bard that none of her invented Harry Potter locations were based on actual places in the real world.

[info]rattlesnakeroot's reaction:

Leaky Cauldron ~ Death Eater Journalism

Why is Leaky doing this? Are they hell-bent on making themselves completely ridiculous?

JKR at Beedle Release: Locations in Harry Potter Book Not Based on Real Places
Books ~ Posted by: Sue ~ December 05, 2008, 08:18 AM

*Heavy Sigh* ~ And I see by the comments that some of our regulars here are caught up in the discussion.

It also took people about five seconds to see this as still another attack on Steve Vander Ark.

Well - my two cents is that they've finally figured out that the Lexicon book has won, not lost, and this is some poor bewildered soul's best shot at trying to "Help Jo" by misquoting or misrepresenting what was actually said at the release of Beedle.

Come on - "NONE" of the magical places are based on real places?

Uh - give me time and I can prove she has already contradicted that in the past.

There is more wank in the comments in RSR's LJ. Highlights:

I would guess, kind Sir, you have never heard the term "burnt bridges."

"Sir"? Sorry - I'm not a Sir. :)

The only bridge I'm burning is with the Leaky Lounge, and I promise never to darken their door again. I only went there to defend my friends, to little avail. And the only thing I got for my trouble was being called a liar or delusional, and even yesterday I received a warning over an innocuous post while others were spewing acid out of their noses and slandering people's private lives. They all deserve eachother.

How vindictive is Sue Upton?
What a vindictive little person Sue Upton is. She wallows in self pity on the podcast and blogs about how Steve is still her friend and then she launches a broadside at his new book under the guise of a news post.

I've been reading that thread since yesterday and it seems to me that nothing ever changes. The sad trolls are still sad trolls. The same people get modded for being reasonable. For the most part it's the same old crew, but what shocked and disappointed me was that JohannMdlAmerica joined them. I didn't expect to see that.

What sad and pathetic people they are. It's not enough for a person's character to be assassinated, now they want him tarred and feathered and stomped into the ground till he cries for mercy. Even now. I despise people who take such sadistic pleasure in trying to tear someone down for fun, just so they can feel special and important. It's not just Mr. Spymaster. It's all of them.

DE may have been the ringleader of that little gang, but JKR is not going to pin a badge on any of them or honor them in lights on her site. I would say I hope they're proud of themselves, but we all know they are. That's sad--to be so proud of something so small and petty.

Who really won here? No one. And it's not like any of them had an actual hand in anything. The pathological mob mentality rules, but if they think JKR is going to personally recognize them as Fans of the Year for their unwavering support, I think they're going to be disappointed.

Keep up the good work, Jeanne.

I don't know if I even want to look at that thread. I am in a good mood and don't want to spoil it by being reminded that I share this planet with a bunch of idiots.

I don't know what made me look in there, I really don't. I'd forgotten all about the appeal and it was just a whim. I wish I hadn't. It made me sick to see. I can't even get angry about it anymore, to be honest, although I can't say why it still bothers me when I should expect it from them by now.
