Oh, this should be fun...
I'm not sure if there's wank over this anywhere, so I'm posting this here instead of [info]clairvoyantwank.

Courtesy of ONTD, it looks like Catherine Hardwicke has been fired from the Twilight franchise:

http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/30413178.html

I hated the book and have no interest in seeing the film, but still, that seems a bit harsh. Didn't the film do well at the box office?

ETA: Via [info]holyheadharpy in the comments, an official announcement of Hardwicke's departure is here.

ETA #2:Now comes an article from Variety that is starting to make the fandom nervous. According to Variety, part of the reason for Hardwicke's departure is serious creative differences over the story for New Moon. Namely, Summit want more RPattz in the film, and Hardwicke disagreed. Also, they want the next film out ASAP:

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117997013.html?categoryid=13&cs=1

The problem that stalled negotiations was that Hardwicke had strong opinions about what to do with the next installment, and so did Summit. The debate was how to focus the adaptation of the second book, which deals more with giant werewolves than vampires, as well as the long depression of Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), after her vampire lover (Rob Pattinson) leaves her. One issue was how to get more of teen heartthrob Pattinson into the film. (Rosenberg has figured out a device to achieve this.) But Hardwicke, burned out from her "Twilight" labors, simply wasn't willing to jam this movie with a script that still needed months of development.

[info]lion_lamb react to the news. Depending on how this all goes, it might be time to move this up to one of the wank coms soon. Anyone brave enough to go looking for how this is playing out in the fandom?

Heavily implied lesbianism between Alice and Bella!

*perks up*
Suddenly I am very much for this plan.

How much awesome would it be if Jasper was a beard/friend to Alice and Bella was throwing herself into Eddie to prove herself wrong (some of us lesbians do that you know, try so very hard to be "normal" and we are so capslock IN LOVE WITH HOT GUY because we lie loudest to ourselves) and Alice is just kicking back.. waiting for Bella and getting her shots in while she can. I mean what does Bella love about Ed besides the superficial
Damn, my mind just went right to femslash territory that gives the source material way to much thought.

You know, I was going to say "but according to the end of Breaking Dawn, Bella really really really loves cock" and then I was like BUT what if she's just trying to convince herself that she does?

I kind of have to admit that when I picked up Twilight the first time, I thought it was only okay as junkfood, but not really great, but if it were about a lesbian romance? it would totally have been better. (I mean, it would've made the "forbidden vampire" thing more realistic to me, since maybe it's also a relationship that wouldn't've gone over well in Forks, since I was basing Forks on the tiny towns I'm familiar with, in the Bible Belt.)

I'm from a small town. Dating the undead would have been better accepted than not liking the wang. Anyway on to my screwing up Myer's work.
Not saying Twillight is about the gahy (nikkistew aside) but how great would it be if it was? Imagine a story where at the very end it was all about Alice Trying to Help, but things not going as planned. She wanted Belle but knew Belle was all about the cock. Now there's Edward. Socially stiff and he's also into Belle. Plus as Growing Up Cullen taught us, Eddie he needs a girl . Alice wants to help Ed And knows crazy teen love doesn't last. Alice does NOT foresee or expect him to fall so hard and crazy. "D'oh!" The plan didn't go as she expected. Edward's crush doesn't fade. So convincing herself she's helping her "brother" she encourages the relationship with snips of precog here and there. A little white lie there, fake thoughts for Ed to read... Getting her moments in when she can. Let Belle be Sparkle Peened and have that baby first (ugh) because ya know, that's important for a woman to do (gag) Then eventually Alice can make her move. When the marriage gets to the after the honeymoon stage.
"I told you to wash the dishes!"
"I was doing homework!"
"You've been in highschool for 20 years! It's always homework as an excuse for you!" *Bella throws down dishcloth and storms over to Alice and Jaspers. Ed goes to fridge and pull out a container of Sea Lion blood and slams it in the microwave splattering the contents all over. He cries.*

When it gets to that stage, When Belle gets over the teenager OMGHawt! stage and into the Wow. His breath is still nummy, but he talks for hours about scrapbooking. then Alice can make the move. >_< and there is my non existant subplot that you can now insert into the books. Please pick the soft tomatoes to throw.

dang see I didn't even think that far into it. I was just like "another boy+girl? I wish Edward were actually Edwina. Oh well, I hear there's a new Emma Donoghue book out..."

But the bit I like about this is that it makes me lol to think of Carlisle changing the dying girl so she doesn't die (and also so he has someone to spend eternity with) only, uhm, she's not interested in him, so off he goes to find Esme.

Also, body glitter is more socially acceptable on a girl. (and I need to remember to add glitter effects to this icon.)
