Beedle the Bard Movie?
WB Considering Tales of Beedle the Bard Film

This is just a rumor for now, and Harry Potter rumors have often been proven untrue (anyone remember the Harry Potter musical?). I quite enjoyed the book, and I'd love to see more Harry Potter. Nonetheless, this seems like a weird idea, and I'm not sure how much of the casual viewing audience (i.e. non-book readers) would flock to a spin-off featuring none of the original cast.

That one was my favorite, with Babbity Rabbity a close second. :)

They should make them, but not release as a movie.

DVD special features. Show them on TV. That sort of thing.

This might be a good idea. I think it would be a lot of fun to see them made, I just have doubts about their success as a feature film.

Well, if they were to do it like the Princess Bride only withe Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione telling their kids the tales around a campfire or something, it might work. This could be their chance to invite all the other Dames and Sirs who haven't had a chance to play in one of the films.

Judi Dench, this is your chance to play a witch.

Now that is a fabulous idea.

Ian McKellen What? Who said that? *whistles*

Although I haven't read it yet, as I am dumb and didn't have it delivered to my dorm, so I don't know what sort of role he'd be able to play, if any.

You know, for Beedle I wouldn't mind an animated film. I think that would be the best way to tell those stories. I'm already imagining it with a narrator (Dumbledore, maybe?) going from story to story tying them together, with various Potter actors voicing the parts in the different stories.

That's my thought, anyhow. Live action Beedle? I'm not so sure. Animated? Done right, it could work.

That would be really fantastic. Although, despite it being the predominant medium at the moment, I don't think it would really work well in CGI. 2D or even stop-motion would be more fitting, imho.

I LOVE stop-motion animation and wish more was being done these days. CGI can be good, but it's not the be-all.

Weeeell, Disney is slowly going back to 2D so, given animation production time, it could come out when CGI has slowed down a little.

Wish I'd seen this comment before. Warner Bros produced the Animatrix, so I think they could probably do something similar with Beedle if they wanted to.

Question is whether they'll decide doing it live-action will be a bigger cash return.

I haven't read Beedle yet. (I know, I'm a bad fan.) Maybe I'll get the book for Christmas...

Like WB would turn down the chance to make a little more money off HP.

I can't help but wonder if this won't end up being a tie in straight to DVD thing sort of like what Get Smart did.

I mean have it released to DVD when the final film is in theaters to drum up extra cash and interest.

It could even be a straight to DVD hold over between the first and second Deathly Hallows movies.

You know, I can't help but feel sorry for J.K. Rowling. Anything she writes from now on will always be compared to Harry Potter, and I doubt she'll be able to write something as insanely popular as Harry Potter ever again. I just hope that she doesn't get a bunch of bad reviews because this new book/movie 'isn't Harry Potter.'

Yeah, milk it some more, WB.

"Oh crap, our cash cow has a contract specifying we can't make any HP movies that aren't based on Rowling's books! Let's split the last one in half and make a film out of a bunch of short stories!"

Wouldn't a series of animated short pieces, similar to the Animatrix, direct to DVD/Blue-ray release work better than trying to make a live feature film?

You know this would make a nice little made-for-TV movie or miniseries that they could show the weekend before movie 7 or 8 hit the theaters.
