Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
pilot script for 'A Game of Thrones' exists and stuff.
Because:

1. LJ's being stupid at the moment.
2. I am tired of hearing about Twilight
3. I am excited to hear about a screen adaptation of a good series of books, I present...

A synopsis of the leaked pilot script for HBO's adaptation of 'A Game of Thrones'

It mostly just confirms that the pilot is pretty faithful to the first 80 or so pages of book, but Winter Is Coming is a pretty good blog, and I am twitching with eagerness to see this series on my teevee since GRRM is too invested in the performance of New York's storied football teams to finish the next book, yo. (That's not true, I still luff him, but the wait for 'Dragons' is making me cry.)

So, can we yay about this for a while?

I second yaying this. And I'm eagerly awaiting casting news, because there's only so many "Who do you think should be cast as X?" threads on Westeros.org that I can handle.

That synopsis had me running around my apartment squealing for five minutes.

Seconded. Although honestly, if they don't cast Peter Dinklage as Tyrion I'll be so disappointed.

the wait for 'Dragons' is making me cry.

You know what they say--every time you ask when A Dance with Dragons is coming out, Martin kills a Stark.

(Which...may prove difficult soon, come to think of it. *smirk*)

But seriously--talk about a series you can get years out of each book for.

He's going to have to keep bringing Starks back from the dead so he can kill them again. We'll have a wolf-headed Robb zombie (wait...Rob Zombie?) before you know it.

Which he's started doing, remember?

wait...Rob Zombie?

ILU for that. :-D

And I would love it if GRRM brought Robb back, just because that was the first time he really sucker-punched me with his patented oops-no-end-of-the-storyline-for-you fake-out. "WHAT!!?! ROBB'S DEAD?!! HE CAN'T BE DEAD; HE WAS DOING STUFF!!"

Re: #1

From lj_maintenance:
Network Maintenance: Dec 17, 2008 02:00 - 04:00 UTC/GMT

The site will be intermittently unavailable during the times of December 17, 02:00 to 04:00 UTC/GMT time.... which is about 7 hours from this posting!

EDIT: To convert UTC/GMT to your local timezone, you can check out http://www.worldtimeserver.com/convert_time_in_UTC.aspx or http://timeanddate.com/worldclock/meeting.html. There's lots more sites out there if you don't like the above 2, just search for something like "convert UTC time zone" in your search engine of choice.

EDIT2: The correct parts did not arrive in time. We will proceed with part of our network maintenance but will have to take another maintenance window tomorrow. Sorry everyone! The times for this window will *not* change though as we'll take the time for extra testing.

Sorry for the relatively late notification, we're still waiting on some last minute parts to arrive so it's possible that this might not even happen today; I'll edit this post with updates as well as status.livejournal.org so check there for what's going on if you can't reach the main livejournal.com site.

Oooo, that sounds very exciting. Might almost be enough for me to go reread the books.

The bit where Jaime throws Bran out is pretty much a perfect ending for a pilot. Brutal and cliffhangery!

Yes. Yes, we can most certainly yay about this.

(And seriously, how can HBO not take this one on? Look at all the sex!)

And violence! Don't forget the violence! =D

They'd be crazy not to, honestly. Well established fanbase, sex & violence... the DVDs would sell like hotcakes.

Yeah, ASoIaF would really only work as a series. If nothing else, I'm glad that HBO picking it up pre-empts anyone's bad idea to try to make a movie or movies out of it.

*yays*

Ah, "The things I do for love", it'll be awesome to see that scene. I hadn't been taking this seriously for a while because I didn't want to be disappointed if they turned out not making it, but now it looks like I'll be following along. So is the casting still just in fan speculation area or have there been mentions from anywhere official yet?

As far as I can tell, it's all just speculation at this point. The guys who are developing the pilot are merry participants in several online forums at westeros.org, though, so we may start hearing more substantial rumors soon.

I'm...insanely excited about this, and today I got to recommend the books to a coworker. I'm..cautiously optimistic about this, and with any luck, I'll be happy.

Now..for a certain book to just get finished..
