RPG?
So I have a lot of free time on my hands right now (THANKS, ECONOMY) and was looking to get into some online RP.

Specifically, I'm jonesing for some Stephen King universe stuff. Seriously, I would sell my left arm for a good plotty Kingverse RP, or a good multifandom RP with a high proportion of Kingverse plots/characters.

Generally, I'm looking for the following:

a) Journal or IM-based, *maybe* message boards. MU*s are cool in theory; in practice, I'm on during weekdays EST, which is not a giant hive of activity most of the time. Sadly, MMORPGs are not going to work, because my laptop is basically an abacus with a monitor.

b) The majority of people write coherent English. Not academic-essay perfect, but the commas should be in the right places, words that take capitals should be capitalized, and words should be spelled correctly 90% of the time.

c) Plots of the more world-saving, less who's-sleeping-with-who variety. Interpersonal stuff is awesome, but I'd like at least one or two plots based on killing stuff/running away from stuff/filibustering Congressional bills/oh god the spiders per week.

d) Urban fantasy/horror is good, medieval fantasy/LOTR is good, panfandom is good if there's plotstuff. I like some element of the supernatural; I do not watch a lot of anime or play Square games (other than Shadow Hearts, and I still need to play From the New World) so I'd prefer that neither of these be the basis for the game, and that any panfandom games not be all about the anime characters.

Any recommendations? Seriously: my left arm. For sale. To you. It makes an awesome paperweight and a pretty damn good horrible reanimated assassin-thing.

I cannot be of direct assistance, but:

You could take a look at RPG Listing and RPG Stats and see if anything piques your fancy. (RPG Stats does a breakdown of the universes the characters in each game are from.)

RP Secrets has an ads thread every day, and there's also RP Want Ads, app_this_plz, and the anon meme usually has people bandying about game ideas.

That is wicked awesome. (For some reason, searching the LJ interests for "roleplaying" and "rpgs" and so forth turned up communities that look similar but seemed to have been started last week.)

Thanks!

I found my current game through someone asking for canonmates on app_this_plz. (Game totally doesn't meet your criteria, though, so I won't plug it to you. ;)

Also, my link was a duplicate, 'cause apparently I still can't use a computer after two decades: app_this_plz.

Don't forget that daytime EST is when Europeans are doing evening, and I find that when I'm on KoL in the mornings, some of my Australian clanmates have just come home from work and are also chilling in chat.

So you might not be able to do RP with Americans, but you'd still be able to find English-speaking folks to play with. (Or other languages, if you prefer something else.)

Also, if you're interested in an MMORPG but can't because of the laptop thing, KoL doesn't use fancy graphics and some of us really love it (others not so much). http://www.kingdomofloathing.com

Fellow KoLer here! Where do you hang out in chat the most? (I need a new channel to draw me back to game, not gonna lie.)

My name's the same as it appears here, or there's also the tiny plastic variety. Perhaps we've already met?

Mostly the KoL Addicts clan chat, really. And I'm Bloody Jacky and bumblebea in game.

What channels are you in these days? I know I recognize at least your tp form from waaay back in the day, but I don't think I've seen you lately?

I haven't been logging in much, honestly. /games kind of got too wanky for my tastes, and my /clan is wonderful, but small... I dabble in /radio and /haiku occasionally, though.

You still hanging in /games? If so, did it get any better after the huge rush of bug exploiters?

KOL is awesome! I haven't really poked at the multiplayer stuff much, but will check it out.

And good idea about European stuff.

Thanks!

May I suggest GateMUSH? We're multitheme and OC friendly! Pretty much the only thing we don't allow are gamebreakers and anything where the creator is distinctly not RP-friendly about (hello Anne Rice, Disney).

I'm not sure if you've considered it, but Milliways is a really good panfandom game, less wanky than most, and full of plotty goodness.

Cast list is here; I didn't check the number of Kingverse characters, though.

Apps are open until the 7th, and if you need help (for there or anywhere!), I'll happily look things over for you. :)

I've been wanting to play in an RPG for a while now after being out of the game for a bit. I'd love to see how characters from various fandoms would deal in the Kingiverse. Only problem is, I'm not a total expert on him, though I've a decent grasp of a lot of his stuff.

Leland Gaunt = Bilis Manger y/n?

I'm pretty good with King canon--not an expert by all means--but *entirely* new to RPing fandom characters. Should probably find someone who is a comparatively minor presence in canon so I don't screw up the personality too badly. ;) (That said, back when I thought hell_wi was still going, I really really wanted to play Gina from West Wing in Standverse, and still kinda do want to do something with her. Because I am crazy.*)

Holy shit yes. To the point where I had to check Wiki to make sure the actor didn't play Gaunt in the awful movie.

*This is the same impulse that had me wanting to write West Wing/Transformers fic after seeing the movie. Because you *know* Leo would be yelling at someone.

I've RPed mostly various AU versions of real people, which is kind of like RPing actual characters. *G*

Oh, yeah, it was Max Von Sydow. For some reason I always associate him with "The Black Hole" though I never actually watched that movie.

Crazy crossovers rule, man.

Morningstar Manor (Formerly on GJ.) was billed as a Stephen King-esque life in a Haunted or possibly demonically possessed Hotel RPG. There were defiantly Ghosts, elevators that were supernatural portals and a really creepy hedge maze on the Roof.

A friend of mine played in it for a while- while she was involved most of the story lines were more soap-opera than Creature feature, but that was a while ago. They may or may not have moved back toward their Horror inspired origins.

They seem to have moved to Insane Journal- http://asylums.insanejournal.com/morningstar_mnr/profile You might want to check out what the mods are up to storyline wise and see if it suits you.
