Get ready for Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter... the MOVIE!

IFC is teaming with Lionsgate for a TV movie based on the "Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter" books. The project is the network's first-ever feature-length production and could be the basis for more Blake projects if successful.

...The project will be adapted by Glen Morgan ("X-Files," "Final Destination"), who also serves as executive producer along with Courtney Solomon ("Dungeons and Dragons"). IFC is targeting the movie to its core base of men ages 18-34 and plans to air the movie next year.

"The popularity of the network in this demographic indicates that there is a clear demand for films that delve into provocative topics and nothing is more classically provocative than vampire lore," said Jennifer Caserta, executive vp and general manager of IFC. "Anita Blake fits perfectly with our successful original programming."

"Laurell has created a fascinating heroine in Anita Blake, and we quickly recognized the onscreen potential for this vivid character," said Kevin Beggs, Lionsgate's president of TV programming and production. "We have an outstanding creative team and are excited to be moving forward with IFC, which will allow us to fully explore the complex world of Laurell's highly intriguing and erotically charged novels.

Men ages 18-34? Do they even realize who reads those books?

I think they may plan to include porn.

It's about vampires and has action, of course men are the core audience! There's no way women would like vampires and action! No way at all! Women only like sappy romances.

Actually I've heard that film makers aim toward the male 18-35 bracket because it tends to pick up everyone else as well. But still.

Just a bunch of people no one wants to market to. But that's okay--they'll fix it and get a real audience to watch.

I saw the D&D movie before I started playing, and thought it sucked.

Then I started playing D&D, and it just went downhill from there. *grin*

I didn't know IFC and Lionsgate did bad porn. Actually, any movie made will probably be better than the books.

My God, woman, this.

It'll be awesome. Spectacular. As SMeyer (another architect of bad vampire novels) would say, dazzling.

It does have potential. Like the way the artwork for the comic elevated it to a whole 'nother level.

IFC is targeting the movie to its core base of men ages 18-34 and plans to air the movie next year.

I think they mean that _IFC_ already has a core base of men 18-34 and it plans to make the movie for that demographic. If Nickelodeon were making an Anita Blake movie, they'd try to make it appeal to elementary-scholers; if QVC were making the movie, they'd target it towards my Auntie Kay.

It's weird, but, this actually gives me hope they might wangle a half-way decent movie out of it. I mean, can you imagine the travesty if they tried to target a female demographic? It'd be He's Just Not That Into You...with stakes.

Is there any possible way to stitch a single screenplay together even resembling an actual plot from the dozen-plus novels?

Oh, wait, I forgot, plots are optional. What was I thinking?

The saddest part is that I have a friend I know is going to drag me to see this. Argh. Hopefully I'll just be able to zone out to the pretty. -_-#

I am imagining the wardrobe department's reaction to the outfits as described in the books, and I don't know whether to laugh or cringe in sympathy.
