I tried, but I never understood why Betty and Veronica fought over Archie. 'cept maybe in the context of 'just for competition's sake'.

I actually found myself preferring that Betty just end up with Reggie instead after reading the story wherein Reggie and Jughead point-black told Archie he was a jerk for still asking out Veronica on an important date even though Betty had helped him earn enough dough for said important date (which she thought/hoped he was going to ask her out to).

Because of Reggie and Jughead guilt-tripping him, Archie saw the light, decided to ask out Betty but still ended up asking Veronica first.

Reggie may be the asshole character, but, in terms of who's been an ass to Betty the most - it's Archie. That he's usually unaware of hurting her feelings or just taking her for granted actually makes him more annoying to me than Reggie, who's supposed to be the annoying one.

That said, I am fond of the stories wherein Jughead and Reggie lay aside their rivalry to protect Betty.
