Lexicon (emphasis on con, amirite?)
So I work at a movie theater. Like most theaters nowadays, we have a bunch of big screens in the lobby area to play advertisements, trailers, and so forth. I noticed that we just started playing this gem. Take a look.

I loled. I mean, not only is that one shitty ad, note the huge scrolling letters that list who the book is NOT endorsed, licensed, or approved by. Just a few nobodies and z-list celebrities, like I dunno, JK Rowling, Warner Bros Inc, Scholastic, etc.

We're going to be selling The Lexicon at our box office when the newest HP film comes out. I anticipate us selling, oh, I don't know...zero copies? And that's not just Lexicon hate, that's past box office special crap sales figures thrown into the mix too. You know how many people bought the comic book adaptations of the Star Trek films? That's right. Nobody.

EDIT: Damn you, rich text mode!! ...fixed my bad html.

How much do you think he paid those people to pretend to be excited about the book?

Yeah, the bookstore I work at has had that one on display a bunch of times since it came out. We haven't sold a single copy (as of yesterday), and things on display usually sell really well. I haven't even had to reshelve it at the end of the night, and things on displays always need to be reshelved. I'm not surprised they're doing all the publicity, because they need to do something to recoup their legal expenses.

"A lot of people have found the books to be almost like a film in words..."

Some would go so far as to say that the films were based upon the words in the books, but we don't like to talk about them.

Books -- they're almost as good as a movie!

I like that in the background of the third guy,# who says that he's all for anything that will get his kids to read, there's a book with a yellow cover and the title "FARTS" spelled in red.

I bet his kids would read that.

#About 50 seconds in, and on the shelf in the bottom left corner.

Lol, I see it!

Earlier on I was like, "... Does that book [way back there in the background] have a penis on the cover?" And then I realised it was Breaking Dawn. El oh el.

My daughter's friend got the Lexicon. She came home from summer camp talking about it. She asked why she had to read a book about the HP books, when she could just read the HP books on her shelves.

If my nine year old can understand that, why can't others?

Wow. I'm almost glad we have the Nuki Nuki song and the Foundation for a Better Life ad now.

..who am I kidding? God, who puts this shit on those screens and why do they hate us so much?

I think the ads I hate the most are the trailers that we get for movies a year in advance that never. stop. playing. I'm looking at YOU, Ice Age 3. You think I've enjoyed watching that trailer of Skrat for the last nine months? At least the regular product ads have the decency to stop playing after a month or two.

Of course, the horrible "Our Time" Detroit propaganda ad we have makes me want to gut puppies, so go figure. If I could find a link to this song I would, but youtube has decided to spare you this day.

Well that was cringeworthy.

So after shelling out however-many dollars to take the kids to see the new Harry Potter movie, and after offloading more cash in loading up on snacks and drinks at the concession stand, parents are going to be totally willing to shell out an additional $24.95 for a book about the Harry Potter books--books their kids already own, and very likely have read many times over, and know the contents of by heart?

I don't need to be a parent to know what the answer to that is.
