Ohio or bust!
Today marks the first day of Origins! It's that time of year where gamers of all stripes converge on Ohio and play until they don't remember how to make a decision without rolling on a random chart.

This is my first year going, but I'm sure some of you have prior experience with Origins or similar gaming cons. Share your best stories! What games do you recomend trying out? Is anyone else headed out to the wilds of Columbus this weekend?

(I'll be posting con reports on twitter, starting with the ride out tonight; I'm Gambling4Kitten if anyone wants to follow my sure to be zany adventures.:)

The North Market is a great place to get lunch. :)

Avoid any games if the GM bears a striking resemblance to Rick Astley. He's a railroading cockbib who screws over players just to make his Marty Stu NPCs look good. :p

My BF's gaming movie is screening, called THAC0. The director will be in attendance, I believe. My BF is the cute one with all the hair and a knack for losing painfully pointy dice. This is a mostly fictional knack; in real life, I just find twenty-sides everywhere, and those don't hurt nearly as much.

I went to Origins with my dad a few years ago and, while the sort of games it featured weren't really my thing anymore, I had a good time until my bad foot really began to hurt (club foot + multiple undiagnosed stress fractures = ohholyshit). Everyone there was extremely nice and friendly and I felt bad for looking so miserable by the end.

Dad's thinking of going to Origins this weekend. If he does go, he'll be the tall, Santa-esque guy squeeing over the Harpoon game XD

And I forgot to add: the year I went there was someone singing a tribute to Firefly and Futurama that had everyone in stitches. I loved it XD

Columbus is awesome. Short North is only just down past North Market someone mentioned earlier and it's a neat place to hang out and look at the goofy street art and stuff. Also, North Market? Signed. I live seventy miles from Columbus, and I'll drive out there just to go to North Market sometimes. However, stay the hell off that I-70/I-71/OH 315 mess after 2:00 in the afternoon if you can at all help it.

Be sure to catch the Smithee Awards on Friday, June 26th at 7:00pm in Ballroom #3 for lots of movies worth mocking. On the playbill this year--Troll 2, the best worst movie ever made.
