Let's Play
I'm not sure how many people are familiar with the concept of Let's Plays but I've become addicted to them. Pretty much its someone playing a game and offering commentary on it. Blind runs are popular as well especially on horror survival games like Silent Hill.

Those of you that are familiar with them do you have any favorites? Or a let's play you'd recommend to someone who'd just discovered the concept?

On a minor note I've started doing LP's myself. I just finished King's Quest 3 VGA remake, and plan to start on KotR I. But I'd like to line up some games to play after that or if I run into issues with KotR, so do you guys have any suggestion? Please keep it to PC games, or games with emulators. And if any of you have tips or comments about my first attempt please let me know. :)

I love LP's. I feel like you can get a better appreciation of a game by watching someone play it.

There are some postively, absolutely, fantastic LPs on Something Awful. To the point where I'd say they're worth the ten bones it costs to register there.

Failing that, the older LPs are archived at this site where they can be viewed for free. Some recs from that site would be Voidburger's Silent Hill Origins and From Earth's screen shot based LPs (though you might want to wait for Voidburger's video ones, as she'll be doing the rest too) any of Feinne's LPs, Rooreeloo's Banjo & Kazooie LP, Chulip by Jamesman (I like this one in particular because the game in question is super WTF and entertaining to watch but tedious as shit to play), and Farenheit/Indigo Prophecy by Lord Mune.

If you do get/have an account, I'd rec Feinne's Disgaea 3 LP or any gold'd thread.

Cool thanks!

I love being able to watch the older games I grew up playing. Plus all the freeware games people like Deceasedcrab come across.

Seconding, and adding the Princess Maker 2 LP for good measure.

Definitely Princess Maker 2. That one was awesome, and the game is crack.

I <3 the LP Archive! Two of my personal faves (both screenshot LPs): Animal Crossing: Wild World and Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII.

Ahh, The Terrible Secret of Animal Crossing. A classic! I thought about putting it there, but didn't want my list to get too long. DoC's on my to watch list.

The DoC one had the odd effect of almost making me want to play that damn game again. Almost.

The Terrible Secret of Animal Crossing was... something. I'm not sure what, yet.

You can read SA LPs just fine without an account. You can't post, but if you just want to read them it's fine. I've been following the phenomenon since the very first "Let's Play FFVI!" one and still haven't paid the registration fee.

Really? Last time I tried to read SA without signing in, there was a ton of ads, the second post one every page, etc. Is it still like that? I thought they had the forums blocked at one point before I broke down and reg'd, but I could just be misremembering or the site was being robust or something.

This non-Goon first read the Animal Crossing LP straight on the forums and had no trouble. Well, the curses were censored ("fuck" became "gently caress", etc.), but other than that, it was fine.

There are a ton of ads, but that's what Adblock Plus is for. It takes care of all the banner ads, the "skip this page" ads, and you can set up custom filters for the second post ones. They do sometimes prevent you from reading threads, but if you wait awhile it always goes back to anyone being able to read threads, and then you just catch up on what you missed (which can be a pain for stuff like the Sakura Wars LP...).

There are a lot of disadvantages, and if you want to register or not depends on how you see them. I have a personal thing about paying to be able to post on an internet forum, so I'll probably never register. But that's me.

I did not know Voidburger was a girl, that explains where the voice on the Silent Hill vid came from. And yeah, rock.
