Oh, Torchwood.
Anyone else waiting for the explosion of wank? There's one more episode to go, so a lot could still happen, but I've seen a lot of people get more than a bit riled up about certain events in Day 4.


Not that I'm all that happy about this myself.

I'm actually pretty impressed (at the same time as sad baw Ianto was my favourite this season) that they killed him. I was expecting Rhys to die of happy couple syndrome, but not Ianto. But I forgot that this entire season has been partly about doing horrible things to Jack I guess.

I still have hope that they'll bring him back at the end of the next episode though, after all it was an alien virus instead of him being blown up or something. It's something that seems very reversible if they get a chance. Or else it's like Torchwood is turning into GANZ or something.

Besides, if they bring him back then we get to have wank about him dying AND wank about them bringing him back :D

I got the DVDs yesterday and watched the lot. I think it's adjusted my perspective as anyone currently calling for RTD's head on a stick? I'd probably go and find them the stick as opposed to 'LULZ overreacting or WHAT?! XD'

During Day 2 I was getting all happy about how there was absolutely no relationship angst and that the plot was therefore proceeding without turning into Torchwood's usual wangsty cheese fest. So you can guess my reaction to the advent of the wangsty cheese fest...

On a remembering-Ianto note, did you notice Jack changing his shirt? Ianto got him a spare shirt for when he got shot. Now that's what I call an understanding relationship.

I think I picked a hell of a miniseries to start watching this blasted show, didn't I?

I know nothing about Ianto, but I just wanted to squish him until Day 4. And then. Then I wanted to squash RTD like a fly on a windshield. Repeatedly. I don't even like Jack and I was warming up to the bastard.

He dies in the miniseries Children of Earth by a deadly virus released into the air of the sealed MI5 building by the mysterious alien race known as the 456, which has injured Ianto fans severely, seriously we may never recover.

Their relationship is one of the sweetest ever, and their love will be mourned.

So I got inadvertently spoiled for Ianto dying a few days ago (thanks a lot, Fandom Secrets!) but even if I didn't know about it, I think it was still really obvious to see coming. I mean, they had what, like four Deep Meaningful Conversations™ about Their Relationship™ and I know from General Hospital that that's the equivalent of the writers shouting "Oh please don't mind the mess, that's just a bit of leftover construction from laying down these new heart strings that we're going to yank on later" that shit was going to go down.

That said, I don't think he'll stay dead. Even if you take out the fact that between this and the end of last season they've pretty much narrowed the cast down to Captain Jack, this is still Torchwood and the Whoniverse - crazy shit happens all the time. I mean hell, Ianto's already died once. Within established canon we've already seen that Jack can bring people back to life, nano machines can fix everything, and we can get year-long "No wait, take backs, I didn't mean it" Deus ex Machina (although I have to say, this is more like Deus ex Where the Fuck is the Doctor, Because I'm Sure Even on her Honeymoon Martha Would Notice and Call Him to Say, "LOL, WTF?").

And for a third argument (which could be based on the fact that I'm working on some fairly hardcore sleep deprivation and am subsequently making shit up), literally the first conversation that Jack and Ianto have in the Hub is:
Ianto: You are going to get us killed
Jack: No, you get killed, not me. You die like a dog. Like an ugly dog.

Which at the time I took to be Jack critiquing Ianto's fake!death acting in an "Oh look, it's a throwaway line at the beginning and we will look so clever when we pull this back out again later" kind of way, although I'm less confident about my interpretation now.


Also, I'll fully admit that that was a tl;dr essay about why I think that Ianto Jones has not actually kicked the bucket and I might be in denial, but I'm okay with that.

(Also-also, unrelated question, but has anyone read the tie-in novels and noticed the fuckoff big continuity error [or Ianto is a lying liar who lies] because he is canon bisexual, instead of girls+Jack? He definitely told Gwen off about it in Twilight Streets.)
