TW RPG?
Soooo, if I were to start a Torchwood RPG, the premise of which is that the players are all staffers at Torchwood facilities in their own towns...would anyone be interested? It might be too difficult to manage, but I'm thinking it might be a hell of a lot of fun. It would probably at this point be on Dreamwidth, but if people can't manage that I'd be okay with LJ as well.

ETA:  And we're live!

Normally I never do RPGs but that's a fantastic idea.

I would do, and not only do I have a lot of extra DW codes, I also have a credit card with which to purchase more.

I'd offer people dw codes for this.

Would this be us playing ourselves as Torchwood operatives? Trying to figure this out. (Also, I have a couple of DW codes, if they're wanted/needed.)

Yes. Mary Sue yourself as much as you want (within reason - you're not allowed to make Jack love you and only you forever, for example), but it'd be you.

For example, I probably would write myself as not being married with a kid, because TW is pretty much incompatible with the sort of blissfully ordinary existence I lead. (Not sarcasm - I'm very pleased with the lack of drama in my life.) But I'd still be Sorcha, still be in Portland, etc.

In that case, Torchwood Caernarfon reporting for duty.

We don't have any cannibals in Snowdonia. :)

I love this idea. Mainly because it gives me an excuse to run around London pretending I'm an undercover agent. It'd be research!

I've never been on Dreamwidth, but it's lj type setup, right? Shouldn't be too difficult to figure out.

But if you prefer to save them for friends and such, I can always beg my flist. :D

I've never done an online RPG before, but I might just try this one. Great idea!

And, I have Dreamwidth invite codes, for those who don't already have accounts.

This sounds so, so cool. Definitely expressing interest. I have a Dreamwidth account, though sadly no invite codes.

At the risk of sounding like a total noob, uh... Dreamwidth is a blogging site, right? Is there something in particular that's making everyone hop on board?

It's run by folks in Fandom. It's an LJ fork - it follows a lot of the LJ code, but with some adjustments.

Would it be one of those serious games, or will it be okay to get a bit ridiculous as long as it's in keeping with the tone of the show? Like, for example, if I play myself as an operative at Torchwood Seattle, can I write long heart-wrenching posts about the difficulties of working undercover when you have bunny ears?

(Reply to this)(Thread)

[info]notjo

I would pay to read those.

[info]sorchar
2009-07-13 02:52 am UTC (link)
It's up to you, I think. It being Torchwoodverse, there are any number of reasons why you might have bunny ears.

However, a genuine love for the show, with all its inconsistencies, plot holes, silliness, and overacting, would be necessary.

I'm hoping for many posts along the lines of "JACK HARKNESS STOP VISITING AND SLEEPING WITH MY AGENTS THANK YOU VERRA MUCH."

I'd be up for it if it keeps a similar variable serious-to-tongue-in-cheek ratio to the original show. Not on DW yet.

Are you interested in Dreamwidth as a non-RPG journaling site? Cuz I have a lot of codes that I am happy to give out, should you want one.

[info]mmanurere

Does DW still have the option to double-post to LJ? Because yeah, I'd be pretty strongly inclined towards moving to a non-LJ site.

It will. I mean, I don't want people who are only interested in mocking the show and people who like it, obviously. But beyond that, yes. TW RPG is not srs bsns.
