I don't know how many of you are fans of the show Glee, but I think this link deserves some recognition for those of you who still break out into spontaneous renditions of 'A maaaaaaaaaaaaan's gotta do what a maaaaaaaaaa's gotta do!' in the shower.

Also, I think I am in love with the first commenter.

I, for one, welcome our musical overlords.

HOT DAMN.

Wouldn't he be perfect to play Will's brother, if he has one? Just saying--there's a certain resemblance there between the actors.

Joss Whedon and Glee are certainly an appropriate match...though not entirely for the right reasons.

It's a show focused on the whiny straight white characters to the detriment of the much more interesting minority side characters. He'll be perfect for it!

Just remember: "teamwork" means always cheerfully providing a backdrop for the performances of the Mighty Whitey love-triangle, even when two-thirds of said triangle have just joined the group and doesn't sing as well as you. And only the Big Bad will ever suggest otherwise!

(Seriously, the initial setup made me think they were aiming for deconstruction-at-great-length of all the heinous TV-comedy B.S. tropes...but the episodes keep passing and I'm not seeing my deconstruction. I'm giving them until the end of the season, mostly because I like some of the cast...mostly the underused performers.)

Well, I supposed you could say the latest episode gave us the moral that minorities will be blown off by one white authority figure and manipulated by another! Which is startlingly accurate, if I could make myself believe that it was intended in any way.

I said a while back I would stop watching it because I didn't want to end up like the sad fucks still watching SPN and still complaining about the same things after five seasons, but then they went and made a coming-out episode that was only a little trite and clichéd, and brought in the background cheerleaders and football jocks (Santana's actress is a professional singer, Mike's actor is a dancer and Matt's actor is apparently both. I know they're there to support the rest of the cast, but they could be given some lines, you know?). So episodes focusing on Artie and Tina and more information on the side characters and I just might be able to put with with the Will-Terri-Emma stuff (because no one seems interested in how this will affect Ken!) and the Rachel-Finn-Quinn-Puck stuff (although admittedly it's mostly Rachel who annoys me and the Finn problems are meta-textually annoying rather than anything with the character).

This. I was convinced after the pilot that the entire point of the show would be hard satire (also because Ryan Murphy did Popular, which was just off the wall), but the more the series goes on, the less ironic and deconstructionist it gets. It makes me hate myself for liking the show; I like the singing and dancing and the over-the-top jokes and I even like most of the main white characters, but if Tina, Artie, and Mercides stay in the background for the entire season? I'm out.

Agreed about Whedon, too. My first reaction to this news was "Oh well, at least he's not writing an episode," meaning he can't fuck up/ignore the race and ablism issues more than the show is already doing on its own.

I am beginning to get pissed off about the lack of Tina and Artie stories. EVERYONE ELSE has gotten to have an episode about them - why not Tina and Artie? I wouldn't even bitch too much if they co-starred in an episode, since they were friends pre-Glee (at least I'm assuming so since they signed up for auditions together). Mercedes at least got a solo number, even if the rest of the time she is a walking stereotype.

I also enjoy the singing and the over-the-top jokes, but the show seriously has some race and gender issues that are making me uncomfortable.

WORD. After the boys-only song, it's obvious Artie can really sing! I think he's way better than Finn, too.

Seconded hard. I really wanted to like that show, but it's casually cruel in a way that made me uncomfortable. On top of the huge amount of uncomfortable the stereotyping and the adultery-ship already made me. I checked out on the third ep, looks like I made the right decision.

I lol'd because I was thinking the exact same thing. Maybe the episode will be centered around some life-shattering revelation instead? OMG PUCK WILL REVEAL HE'S THE ACTUAL SHAKESPEAREAN FAIRY AND TERRI IS GOING TO HAVE TO LIE TO WILL AGAIN AND TELL HIM SHE'S HAVING A FAIRYBABY.
