They moved the headstones, but they didn't move the bodies!
So I went to go see Paranormal Activity last night, and I had a question. After the screen goes black at the end, does anything happen? I was waiting for the credits, but they didn't come, just text explaining what happened to the characters and black, and since the lights went up, I assumed it was over, but I've heard otherwise. Anyone know if anything important happened?

Also, Night 20, holy crap!

I don't know but can you tell me if it's worth seeing?

I thought the main characters were ridiculously annoying. Pretty much on the level of Marcy and Jefferson from Married With Children, only played straight and in no way as entertaining. They're those twentysomething neighbors you never invite over for dinner.

It had some really good moments, but it was mostly... "OH MY GOD, A DOOR JUST CLOSED! LET'S FREAK OUT!" (...) "OH MY GOD, A OUIJA BOARD MOVED BY ITSELF AND CAUGHT FIRE! LET'S - um, freak out decidedly less and just sleep on it for a while!"

Annoying people making bad decisions in the dark in a movie shot in just a couple of days. If that's your kind of thing, go see it, it's really a pretty decent film. Just not worth all the hype IMHO.

Also, no, there aren't any credits. That was the ending. It's a Blair Witch kind of thing.

I liked it a lot so it's really up to the individual and your mindset going into it (and if you even like scary movies). I saw it before wide release and I wanted to be spooked but not grossed out, a la most "horror" movies of late. I knew it had a ridiculously low budget with total newbie "actors" so I didn't have super high expectations. My friend and I both had fun.

Well, I saw the pre-theatrical cut DVD rip and.. no. I hear the theatrical version had a much more fulfilling/scary payoff at the end, but my understanding is that the rest of the movie is the same as what I saw, which doesn't make it worth it to me.

Kind of fun to watch the rip with friends though. We gathered around the laptop and mocked the movie's idea of characterization.

"So are they going to have discernible personalities or anything?"
"Well, you've got the man, and the woman. ...I think that's going to be our characterizations in a nut shell."
[Guy tries to use camera for sex vid, then calls out the unseen entity to like, have a night brawl or something]
"Yyyyep."

Definitely not. Really boring, badly acted, and badly paced. The first twenty minutes or so are fairly good, but after that the ending falls apart and there are plotholes from Hell.

If you enjoy the genre for what it is, you might enjoy it... like at a matinee price, I guess. Personally I found it frustrating because every time there was a hint of something remotely interesting, it was dropped in favor of more annoying bickering. There was nothing satisfying about it. I hear the in-theater ending is better than the original cut, but having read details, not much better.

I can't really say since I find horror to be very personal. What scares you might not scare me.

I found it pretty scary though, which I found odd since I laugh at ghost movies. It might not make you jump or scream (I didn't) but I found I felt pretty tense as the days go on in the story.

My thoughts exactly. I usually laugh my ass off at horror movies, but for some reason this really bothered me. And my friends who usually aren't into horror movies were just "meh."

I think it was more the idea than the presentation. Weird Shit happens when you're asleep, and you don't know about it until it's too late. Unless your fiancee has the braincells of an oyster and thinks "Don't poke the monster!" means "Poke it! Poke it!"

Agreed. When you watch it and you think about what's happening, it's fucked up. It's not like stupid teenagers going into a dilapidated slaughterhouse to make out, it's a woman who can't escape it, no matter where she goes. It's not her bedroom that's haunted, it's her.

And the bad shit happening at night got me, cause well, how do you escape that? You have to sleep at some point, and leaving all the lights on won't help.

I enjoyed it, but I didn't actually find it scary (and usually I'm a huge horror wuss).

Well, my friend, who is usually less of a horror wuss than I am, was TERRIFIED, so... make of that what you will. I think it was the lack of music, honestly... I'm so keyed into creepy music. The Kids in the Hall pickle sketch scares me, for god's sake.

I heard that it's much more scary in a theater if everyone else in the theater is acting scared; you can kind of get into it, that way. But yeah, if you think about it too hard it breaks down.

Depends. If you're the type who puts yourself into it, like "if this was me..."? You'll wet your pants and probably think it's great. If you view it as complete fiction the whole time, probably not.

For some reason, the female character gave me strong vibes of that lonelygirl on youtube.

My boyfriend and I cackled our way through that whole thing. You guys have got Katie's whining and Micah's pseudo-macho posturing downpat. Awesome. (Also, the blood/chocolate thing was brilliant.)

I liked it, but as someone above said, horror is very personal.

I was cheering on the big bad to do something horrible to the dude. Anyone who's that dumb and that much of a jerkface needs to get eaten and/or set on fire
