I've been wanting a second laptop for awhile now, and my finances are finally in a place where I can do more than sigh longingly at Staples ads. The one I've got is great, but it's running Vista and is full of my pictures and music, and I need a work machine that I can install Win7 on.

I'm looking for a PC (not a Mac or a Linux box), under a thousand dollars (preferably), that can handle Photoshop, streaming video, and video editing software without overheating, freezing up, or generally throwing a fit.

Right now I've got an HP Pavilion dv5, and I've been looking at the HP Pavilion dm4-1160 (aluminium case = doesn't overheat as readily, which has been an occasional problem with my dv5).

Thoughts, recommendations, ideas?

At work the other day (library), a patron asked me where our monga (like the o in bond) section was.  It took me a second to figure out what he was asking for, and I said "manga?" (like mango), and he just stared at me and repeated mooonga.  So I asked if he meant the Japanese graphic novels, and he said yes, so I sent him to the graphic novel section.

I'd never heard it pronounced that way, but I can't truthfully say I remember hearing that many people actually say the word out loud.  So how is it supposed to be pronounced?  Or how do you pronounce it?

You remember that article about Twilight in the New York Times? There was an entry about it posted here on Monday?

Well, I have a paper for my writing class due tomorrow and we pretty much have to find an article in the New York times and write our reaction to it or an analysis or something.

You probably guessed which article I'm using. <3

My thesis? Twilight fans are crazy.

I hope my writing teacher doesn't fail me, ahaha.

...Was a success! Many thanks to my friend Cognate ("bloodylungs") who agreed to host the entire call on his enormous university connection, and thank you everybody for coming. My sincerest apologies to the people who couldn't make it because of skype problems. You were sorely missed. :)
It was a great time, even though after two and a half chapters (and nearly three hours in the call) Skype finally broke and we decided that that was enough of that.

Some of the highlights included...

- Making a few ... improvements... to the book (Thank you find and replace, and an easily hosted html copy :3)
-- Renaming Bella "VEGETA." Which leads to IsaVEGETA Swan.
-- Renaming Edward Cullen to "SPUNK RANSOM" (The Cullens are the RANSOMs respectively)
-- Forks got replaced by Sporks
-- And any other occurrence of "Bell" whether it be in context or not was known as "Doorknob"

We felt that these changes made the amazingly slow writing flow a little better. Perhaps even rescuing the story entierly.

In short lots of amusement, silliness, boggling at Utah names, and drinking for those fortunate to have drinks handy. In fact, if I recall correctly people started taking off their headphones and moaning at one point.
