Disney Says 'No' to Thrawn...

[info]ladyrogue
So for those who had hope for the Zahn novels, Disney recently came out saying that they are not going to be using the Thrawn series. Instead the writers are going to be using an original story.

Disney buys Lucasfilm, plans Star Wars Episode 7 for 2015

[info]j_crew_guy
Get ready for more Star Wars, and possibly further incarnations of your favorite George Lucas properties: The Walt Disney Company is buying LucasFilm for $4.05 billion, with plans to release Star Wars: Episode 7 in 2015.

Edit Episode I: Full press release reveals that this includes LucasArts, Industrial Light and Magic and Skywalker Sound.

Edit Episode II: Fox retains rights to all existing Star Wars films, so that would be a "no" to the Original Trilogy getting a proper re-release on DVD/Blu-ray.

[info]darksumomo
In honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday, I give the gift of crossover fan art.

What if Dr. Seuss had written and drawn Star Wars?

The Atlantic's political blogger Ta-Nahisi Coates is asking about Star Wars: The Old Republic

[info]darksumomo
Yes, really.

Return of the Jedi
So how are we feeling about Star Wars: The Old Republic? I just finished installing and patching this morning. I played around with some character creation, but haven't a chance to do much else. But even in doing that little bit, I realized how dated WoW's graphics really are. I suppose that's a good thing in some ways--WoW can run on almost game PC, at this point.

Either way, I'd love to have a new game on my list. I'm a little pissed about WoW actually adding the panderan. It just feels like more comic relief.
If I weren't a fan of Coates before, I am now. SQUEE Awesome!

Han Solo was a furry?!?!

[info]j_crew_guy
Han Solo originally had a Wookiee wife.

Screenwriter Lenny Ripps (Star Wars Holiday Special):

What was interesting to me was that Lucas started talking about Star Wars as if it was a real world. He said things like "Well, you know Han Solo is married to a Wookiee. but we can't say that." Now that was 20 years ago [in 1998], so my memory may be wrong.

According to starwars.com's Ross Plesset, however, his memory is surprisingly good:
As outrageous as Ripps's recollection sounds, there is evidence supporting it. Pat Proft corroborates it and an early draft of the Star Wars script (January 28, 1975) has Han Solo living with a furry female creature who he kisses. Proft also remembers learning that Han was raised by Wookiees, which is verified on pages 46 & 131 of Laurent Bouzereau's Star Wars: The Annotated Screenplays.
