Okay, so I know you're probably a SAHM with little to no post high school education and you've probably never really had a reason to write much, but newsflash: lol is not a form of punctuation.

Yeah, that commercial on tv where the family is playing Scrabble using texting words like ROFL? People don't actually write like that on the internets, unless they're idiots or doing it ironically, not that we can even expect you to know what the word 'ironic' actually means.

Context uses a doll for visual reference at the hair salon:

My dd and I went to get our hair done. so I had her bring 28h with her. she went to get her hair cut. and I took 28h with me . I told the girl I want the same hair color as her lol she was like ok. and all the girls were looking and I am like yes I know I have a doll and I want the same color hair. well after she was done I was so happy. I was really . I was not sure how it was going to turn out lol but I love it. and it looks the same color. I have to let if grow out and then I might get the same hair cut lol . my dd wants to take kit next time and get her hair cut lol I am sure they will think we are nuts time we get done lol.

Sadly, this particular AG collecting board is intended for adults, but 90% of the teenagers use better writing and grammar than this woman! (lol)

(PS: I just realized another hilarious yet eye-stabbing part of this woman's post: she titled the thread "Well the doll came with me?" - because everyone needs to know to read that in Cher Horowitz's voice.)

But seriously, I think that some people in the fandom enjoy acting like they have the mental capacity of a half used tube of toothpaste. "Thinking bad! It gives you wrinkles!"

Hey, did you see these on ebay? Bunch of colors - I can't remember, but the frogs are on the wrong side, yeah?

I think they can go either way, a quick google search shows me.

Oh boy, because I love that qipao so much. (It is a qipao, right?) I'm thinking of getting it for my doll, but I'm not decided yet. The fabric is just so pretty.

those are wine bottle covers, if I'm not mistaken. Check your local Pier One.

Like these

The fit on SD sized resin dolls as well but are quite stuff.

To be fair, using chatspeak ironically isn't that ironic.

It's maybe fifty to seventy five spoons, when all you need is a knife.

It's the good advice that you thought about blowing off for a while but then finally decided to do it, and it helped a little bit.

It's like meta-irony, or something.

Mostly I couldn't figure out a way to point out that not everyone who participates in a CAPSLOCK community is an idiot, though they often act like they are. ;)

The saddest part is that if you switch ' one adult on a doll forum' with 'many adults on a free stuff forum', you've summed up my experience with that particular annoyance. If I have to hear 'lol' as punctuation or 'dd/dh/ds' again, it'll be too soon.

It doesn't just drive me nuts, it drives me into a foaming RAGE. Lazy fuckers who can't be bothered to spend the extra 0.003 seconds to write "son" instead of "ds" need to have their computers taken away, possibly for good, and given to impoverished yet talented university students, or something.

Damn, I think my period's due.

It's the 'dear' part I don't like. You don't need to assure me that you love and value your family members -- I promise I didn't just assume you loathe them! Of course, the fact that 'ds' is only one keystroke shorter than 'son' also annoys the crap out of me. I only care for acronyms/abbreviations when they actually shorten something.

I'm surprised they haven't extended the lingo. For instance:

RBD = Raging Bitch Daughter
UGS = Unexpectedly Gay Son
CBH = Cheating Bastard Husband

And so on. Now that would be awesome, in a very low-level way.

I can't speak for other MMORPGs (or even other FFXI servers) but one thing I noticed when I started playing Final Fantasy XI again was the prevalence of lol as punctuation. Well, maybe not punctuation, but an insert word that is used to enhance a point, in this case one of humor or being amused. It's something I've grown used to in game, but I find myself having to work to avoid using it like that in other settings like this.

I've noticed that I occasionally use lol as punctuation if I'm tired/nervous/not paying attention. It's mortifying. I also drop capitals on the beginning of sentences, which annoys me too.
