Little things annoy me.
How's this, instead of typing up a whole post complete with pictures and whatnot and then ending the whole thing with "if this is not allowed, please feel free to delete!" as if you're somehow being incredibly magnanimous about the inevitable indignity of a deleted post, why don't you:

1. Read the community rules.
2. Browse the community to see what kind of posts are there and how they are received.
3. Contact a moderator if you still have questions.
4. Delete or edit your own post if you still manage to break the rules.
5. Apologize.

Does this annoy anyone else?

It annoys me enough that I'll ban people for doing it, when I'd usually just delete the post and give the poster a warning.

It's an insta-ban offense in my comm, too, even if the post is, in fact, on-topic otherwise. So, so annoying -- like, thanks for the permission to do my damn job, ass.

My policy, as a mod, is if they can't be bothered to discover if their post breaks the rules or not, neither can I, so I delete it on general principle.

It's annoying, but damn, it happens in one of the comms I'm in in nearly every other post or so. :/

Yeah, I never really got the point of that, either. So they're basically giving the mod permission to do their job?

I've always read that as "I was too lazy to read the rules/lurk moar/contact a mod so I'll tack on this sentence and hope I look less like a lamer." Apparently, it does not work.

Well, I think that's better than commenting in a mod's journal, or IMing them. Since most mods don't provide e-mail addresses, and a lot of communities have painfully vague rules. . .

Agreed. I've posted similar ("I think this is okay, but if I'm wrong, delete/tell me and I'll delete") only in situations where the rules are vague, I've been in the comm long enough to think the post is okay but don't recall ever seeing an example of what I'm posting, and the mods don't provide an address/are difficult to contact. I think I've done that all of twice in five years on LJ.

People who can't be arsed to read perfectly clear rules, though, are obnoxious.

This is about the only time I do it as well. Usually after two or three days of hunting through everything I can find and trying to get someone to answer me.

Though when the rules are nice and clear on something, well, then a person should be swatted for it.

Yes, I hate that A LOT. And I have never encountered it as mod, I just hate it as a matter of principle because it's so stupidly entitled. Or entitledly stupid, I don't know.

I have this one person who posted media files on a comm with clear NO MEDIA ALLOWED rule. -_-;;; Since we have the 'three warnings, then ban' policy, I must admit that I can't wait to ban her/him for breaking the rule again.

Annoys the right fuck out of me and yet, I also feel guilty because I'm pretty sure one of my fandoms is to blame for starting that trend.

Oh, Prince of Tennis fandom. You're like Canada in a way.

Not only do you have a point, but now I really don't feel all that guilty anymore. Let the pointing of fingers and mockery begin!

It makes me want to delete the post even if it is on-topic, because they should know one way or the other.

My personal favorites are the posts to comms where off-topic posts are quite emphatically not allowed, and yet the poster will put "OT" in the subject line.

Totally.

I hate when ppl say 'I don't know if this is allowed' - if you don't know, maybe you should find out, yes?

Like it's okay to break the rules if you claim ignorance? Um - no. Really, do you think that would work if you robbed a bank, but told the police you didn't know it was against the law to do it? I'm thinking - no.

Does it annoy me? Yes and no. If the rules are vague or if you've got reason to believe your post is on-topic but you're not quite sure, then I think it's okay. I've done similar things in the past, and the mods have actually seen that they could probably make the rules a little less vague and gone to fix them. That's progress, right?

On the other hand, if you know something's against comm rules, or if you couldn't be bothered to find out, that's both stupid and annoying.

Considering that the extra comment for Rule 7 in the [info]clairvoyantwank user info is mine, I'd say that's a 'yes'.

Personally it doesn't bother me at all, because it's just a sentence at the beginning of a post that I have to skip over.
