I MUST have REASONABLE reason to hate someone's favorite character?
Well, from my POV; those topic of "Who you like/hate and reason why you like/hate him/her?" should be dropped or banned from discussion. Because it causes more problems than actives the decent discussion without wank of people get defensive "OMG HOW DARE U LIKE/HATE HIM/HER".

Yes, I replied the topic that I hate a female character A. Reason? To me she is annoying. And many of fic that turn her sue horrify me.
Comment replied of what I said; "She is annoying isn't reasonable reason of why you hate her. It's unfair to hate her base on bad fic."

I go WUT? After reading reply 3 times.

1. Because of she is your favorite doesn't mean she is not in my hate list. And not all people must like her as you like.
2. Like, dislike, hate is kinda personal feeling. Like taste people have different of taste. I hate pink, do I have to tell you why and must be reasonable at all?
3. As I said, first that character annoys me. The sue fic just make me more dislike her. I don't base all my hate on bad fic in the first place.
4. Please don't try to convince me to like her. Because it'll turn to opposite result if you annoy me enough. I won't magically turn 180 degrees to like her suddenly for the "reasonable reason" either.

YES. Agreed. If I have to hear one more person asking why I don't like Remus Lupin or Hermione Granger, I will HIT something. Can't my personal dislike be enough?

That's a lose-lose though, because if you outline every reason you dislike the character, then you're being psycho and omg why do you care so much and why would you waste your time on that if you hate it so much etc etc. ;)

Just...thank you. Every time I see a "least favorite character" thread I headdesk because I just know there's going to be:

a) Petty bashing for stupid reasons
b) Shipping wars
c) Bliss ninnies who think disliking characters makes someone a serial killer
d) Armchair therapists who think not liking a female character = misogynistic hater of one's vagina
e) All of the above

I always keep saying I can like Code Geass or Battlestar Galactica and still hate 99% of the characters in them (and the number on the former is steadily climbing), so I totally understand.

No one needs to have a "valid" reason to "hate/like" a fictional character. To begin with they're not even real people so it's not like their feelings are going to be hurt if we say "we don't like them". Either we can relate or "click" to the character or we don't, it's really that simple.

Any fangirl or fanboy that thinks we need to write essays "justifying" our reasons for "hating" a character, take their fandoms way too seriously and need to step outside their basements and realise that there IS such a thing as a world outside of fandom.

People write long meta essays about why and how much they dislike this or that character anyway, though, without prompting. That's usually called wanky and petty bashing. People like justifying things, especially their likes and dislikes. If they didn't, when a post encouraging them to do so comes up, they would ignore it.

As should you, if you don't feel like justifying yourself. I'm sure the rest of your fandom doesn't particularly want to hear your petty bashing, either.

*shrug* "I find them annoying" is a legit reason. "Because I find them annoying that means they're a bad character and people who like them are idiots" is really, really obnoxious.

The number of characters I hate has been steadily declining since I hit adulthood, and I tend to not understand massive, fiery hate for characters that I see as mildly obnoxious at worst.
