Dear people who apparently can't be bothered to google,

Videogame faqs and walkthroughs exist for a reason.

Use them.

No love,

Me.

thiiiiiiis

I swear for a while every other post in the Persona 4 LJ comm was "WHAT LEVEL SHOULD I BE AT BEFORE I FIGHT KANJI'S SHADOW????"

If I see one more "WHAT LEVEL SHOULD I BE" questions or anything about the quests, I will smack a bitch.

Ugh, this. I just left the community. If you're dead set on not using a guide... You could (like I did) just try to fight it, and, if losing, level and try again until you get it? Too logical?

Alternatively, stop spamming and use GameFaqs.

Seriously. I went off to fight Mitsuo without expecting anything, got my ass kicked thoroughly and it took me nearly an hour to finish that battle. So afterwards I had to keep grinding again.

But it seems grinding is only for losers these days. :|

Ugh, Mitsuo. Worst battle ever . (Barring, umn, the one I'm currently on, but final bosses are supposed be a pain). I didn't have to level but a little for it, but holy crap that took forever.

:| Too much effort, I suppose.

That bad? I'm not going there because of SPOILERS, but wow. Way to be dumb, people.

But that would require, like, effort.

But then they couldn't brag about how they're such awesome players they never use walkthroughs.

Videogame faqs and walkthroughs exist for a reason.

Which isn't to allow you to not play the game and pretend you did.

Efame and eblowjobs I guess.

Insanity also works.

But there are just so many things you end up missing in walkthroughs like ACTUAL CHARACTER INTERACTION and HUGE CHUNKS OF THE STORYLINE. Especially if it's an rpg. How can you write for something when you're missing at least half of the information needed?

Just... yeah, I don't get it.

A while back, someone on my Flist informed me of the existence of "plot tapes," which would be distributed amongst people who couldn't be arsed to actually play the games, but wanted all the fanservice anyway. These days, we have Youtube for that.

But it just blew my fucking mind, that someone way back in the days before streaming video would go to the trouble of recording the entire game, editing out the gameplay parts, and mailing it around to all his or her friends at his or her own expense... Just so everyone else could not "have" to play a videogame.

In some cases it makes a kind of sense. I have a good friend who's a devoted horror nut, but who hasn't got the physical reflexes or even the desire to slog through an entire game to get to what's important to her: the cool story. Not to mention a lot of the games she "watches" are Japanese and not available this side of the planet. I find it a bit odd myself, but I suppose it depends on what you prioritize. Me, I like playing along and getting my story with the cool activities. Her, well. She wants nothing but the freaky story without the distraction of PRESS X NOT TO DIE.

I suppose that makes sense for games that are extremely heavy on cutscreens and story (Persona series, anyone?) or what [info]soupspooks is talking about, but I'm totally boggled by the fact of their existence otherwise.

And maybe I'm just weird, but even for said games I want to have earned the story. Could I have just watched P4? Sure. But playing it has been way more satisfying. (Besides, you miss out on small things that can really 'make' a characterisation when you don't actually play the games, usual).

Yeah, in P4, the first time I talked to Rise in the hallway at school when she was trying to decide whether or not to pull the fire alarm ("But I can't! I'm an idol!") was pretty funny.

I can understand that though.

There are games that do have a interesting storyline and likable characters but are impossible to play due to poor game mechanics and bad level design.

Or even games that are decent can be wrecked by a poorly designed boss or level.

So I can understand why there are folks who might be interested in the plot but don't want to have to have to play said game.

Yeah, I gave up on Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories because the combat system made me want to kill myself, so I read a plot synopsis instead.
