hurdadurdledur.
Hey, you?

Yeah - you, chuckles. What the fuck made you think that a thread discussing the myriad ways in which authors show asses and have issues - one in which there had been, up 'til that point, none of this disparagement shit, and one in a very well-thought-out post in re: Racefail, to boot - was the right place to go "Butbutbutbutbut I don't see any sexism or misogyny or problematic material in Alan Moore's works!" and heavily imply that anyone who did see it was just looking for something to get offended about?

What the actual, seafaring, candy-coated FUCK made you think that was the right time or the right place!?

SERIOUSLY.

Flossing christ. Is it that hard to STOP AND THINK A SECOND. Even I, with my attention deficit and impulse control, can manage to stop and think about shit - and yes, sometimes one DOES have to stop and think about shit!

I sincerely hope that you remain ignored and unengaged because frankly? You lost the war before you fired a single ROUND, child. Your position is nothing but a losing one, even if you think you've won, because 'you're just IMAGINING IT!' is a copout lazy bullshit claim full of fail and lose.

Jesus H., you're stupid. You get the punchy!Six icon.

I can't do this anymore, man, I need tea before I start to throw shit.

Only yesterday, during a discussion of female characters in Moore's works prompted by our seeing Watchmen, a guy friend of mine told me 'Honestly, I don't want anyone to know that I'm even aware Lost Girls exists. There's just no excuse for it.'

The other side of that is Promethea, which is, IMO, the most awesome comic ever *and* the best primer on the Western magical tradition... but nobody bats a thousand, ya know?

My husband is a fan of Promethea, but even he things Moore lacks a certain touch when it comes to writing women. Fortunately for the both of us he keeps a list of comics he wants and doesn't want. I think he'd rather get a kick to the nuts than a copy of Lost Girls.

Not that I'm denying Moore has Some Issues (I wound't argue with the OP's judgment of Wrong Place to Defend the Wacko, Buster), but there are *so many* male writers who lack that touch, in so many media, even if there are many other admirable things about their work. Dare I mention Mr. King and Mr. Whedon as examples? *coughs politely*

Neither of us are big fans of your other examples, I have to admit, so discussions of their works rarely come up at our place. If we bothered with every writer who has trouble putting themselves in the shoes of a character who doesn't match their gender/ethnicity/whathaveyou, we'd be sitting around all day!

Yes, that's really all I was saying--that it's a widespread weakness.

I -liked- what I saw of Promethea but I couldn't get around a lot of the nghfuh in LoEG (MIA HARKER IS NOT A WUSS) and - yeah.

She's not in the comic. She's pretty awesome in the comic. Fuck the movie, it's nothing to do with the book.

Mina is totally the Brains of the Outfit in the book.

Promethea is awesome but I'm really getting sick of "hot young female lead must boink old man at some point". Even if it makes sense within the narrative.

I thought Lost Girls sounded cool, until I heard a synopsis. And I was like, "No thanks, think I'll stick to Fables..."

Yeah--the Wiki article on it makes it sound not-horrible, if porntacular, but I vaguely remember hearing that it was actually really pretty bad.

I really want to know what was going through his head when he wrote Lost Girls.

Otoh, 'Halo Jones' was full of win and great female characters. I think some men get creepier as they get older, cos 'Lost Girls' is not so much the same as Jones.

Oh god, I hadn't even thought to compare the two. Halo Jones was so awesome, too... and then here comes boring sex and poorly drawn canteloupe boobs. What.
